Absolutely delicious I love wild Pepper it's so delicious. My favorite Chinese food everrrr I highly recommend it :)

I'm surprised that I found a Chinese restaurant at this area. It is cozy and clean inside. Service is good. Most customers are coming with several times, I realized that because customers greetings and hug with owner even they are just coming for a lunch. The food is most likely local Chinese flavor. Pretty much enjoy the time being here

Mongolian beef is fire ; literally it's a bit spicy but the flavor is great !! Other great dishes I've tried fried rice , beef and broccoli , prawn and vegetables and general chicken...

  • *****

Awesome dishes! Our Union ordered 8 different dishes and they were fabulous! Especially Mongolian Beef, it was just enough spice to clear your sinuses. 3 of these were vegetarian and tofu and they were awesome too. Can't wait to go there in person.

  • *****

Best orange chicken in the f#cking world!!!!
Seriously run don't walk to this joint.... had a feast for a family of 5 for less than 50 bucks!

  • *****

One of the best value for money Chinese restaurants that's located in SF. If you are still looking for Asian food or more options, honestly just try wild pepper. Their lunchtime prices and options are so good you will definitely come back for more.

  • *****

Always delicious and great vegetarian options! We had the string beans and tofu with pepper, general tsao tofu, and mixed vegetable in garlic sauce.

  • *****

The food here is fantastic. There are so many options and I have never come across a dish I didn't enjoy. We tend to order vegetarian - dry cooked string beans are so delicious and really enjoy the Indian monk dish. The sauces are well balanced and not too sweet. The staff is nice, and the restaurant tends to be quiet. Many surrounding neighbors order take out. Dining in is best if you are not in a hurry - however the food is usually quick to arrive.

  • *****

This is my go-to Chinese takeout. Service is fast. The place is nothing fancy. But the food is consistently good, the price is right, and the portion is big. I usually order the stir-fried string beans with garlic and sesame, basil egg plants with prawns and scallops. The dry braised chicken is also good, though sometimes can be slightly sweet

It's simply great food, I'll go as far and say THE best in mission!! Friend took me and my family there a few years back and we've been coming ever since. Kids love the bbq fried rice, fried chicken with side of Sweet and Sour sauce, Sesame chicken and crab Ragoons for starters, Highly recommend!!

Over the Christmas holiday, my family and I stopped by the Wild Pepper for an early afternoon dinner. This is an authetic cozy corner Chinese restuarant. The restuarant has a nice oriental decor including a small shrine and well prepared food. We ordered several dishes. I especially enjoyed the crispy duck and rice. Others ordered shrimp fried rice, dumplings, and chicken vegetable dishes. I wouldn't mind coming back to this restuarant!

I go here often, they're nice and have decent chinese food. Nothing special kind of place but they don't have a bad dish.

  • *****

I really love the Shanghai tofu. Every dish I've tried has been good. Flavors are great. Ordering for pick up, I've always had times estimated accurately. Reiterating, the Shanghai tofu is my fav.

  • *****

Good quality Chinese food. They have an award for their General Tso's chicken posted on the wall, I decided to give it a try and it's amazing! Good quality meat, lots of flavor and not too greasy. The place isn't very crowded for a Friday night either. I'll definitely come back to try the other items.

Delicious food, fast, for decent prices. I've been ordering from here for years and appreciate their quality and consistency. I've never had a bad dish. Our favorites / most regularly ordered:

Basil eggplant with prawns and scallops,
    Walnut prawns,
    Sauteed green beans,
    Wonton Soup.

  • *****

Ordered this place on a whim, and was not disappointed. They have a great lunch specials, where you can get soup, fried rice/chow mein/or regular rice, and an entree' for $8! And it didn't make me run to the bathroom like some other "cheap" places. My office has ordered from them a few times now, and I haven't been disappointed.

  • *****

Dollar for dollar the best Chinese food I've had in San Francisco! The general Tao's chicken is golden brown and crispy, what more can you ask for. Awesome place to go to :-)

  • *****

Love this spot! The chicken can be a little too batter-y but at this point this place is comfort food for me, and I come back often.

  • *****

This is my favorite Chinese place in the Bay Area.

    Yes it's "Americanized"

But the Tofu has great texture, it's spicy, flavorful, and you always leave full.

I can't believe this place is rated as low as it is!

Wonderful first experience tonight! The owner was warm and inviting. For my first time, I asked what were his favorites. He recommended the Three Delicacies and it was a hit! The chicken, shrimp and scallops were seasoned perfectly! Such a solid dish when you want a lighter, less saucy option. Ambiance is great. Quiet, low light, soft music in the background. I will be back.

General Tsos is on point! crispy and flavorful.

Schezuan beef was spicy and delicious with lots of veggies.

The only things we wish are that rice wasn't an extra fee and that there were more types of veggies in the beef. It was mostly green pepper and my husband isn't the biggest fan of green pepper.

I saw they have an awesome lunch special too so next time we may try that.

Get the general Tsos! You won't be disappointed if you like sweet and crispy deliciousness. Great. Easy. Reasonable prices. Super fast. Pickup was no problem.

  • *****

Meatless Kung Pao the best I'm addicted to it great choice for vegans who love that spicy taste of course with a side of rice bomb

  • *****

The Hot and Sour soup was delicious! Delivered within a half hour. Exactly what I needed to cure me from the flu bug that has taken over my body.

  • *****

Ordered delivery for the first time here tonight. The food bag burst and some of the food fell out and spilled as the delivery guy was walking up the steps. He was so awesome- he went back to the restaurant and grabbed us more food , and was back in 20 minutes. Awesome service!!

    Plus so yummy

I absolutely love this place the best Chinese food in town highly recommended everything is unbelievable

  • *****

OFFICE MANAGERS, This place is great for catering lunches and holiday parties. Just call them and place the order directly to avoid all of the nonsense with zero cater or other tech ordering facilitators.

    Solid Chinese cuisine.

  • *****

My new go to place for Chinese food in the city. I was pleasantly surprised at the garlic chicken. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is lack of delivery option

  • *****

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the city The service is absolutely great and the food is delicious
I am very picky when it comes to my Chinese food
So when I want to order something Pacific they're always happy to make it for me and it usually comes out great and they even deliver which is really convenient

  • *****

I personally am a huge fan of their chicken chow mein, definitely my go to place for showmen. However the reason for the 4 stars is simply because I have gotten a stomach ache from their orange chicken. Other than that I love the place.

  • *****

Really good food. Amazing service. Great location wonderful vegetarian options. Huge portions.

  • *****

A staple lunch time place! The lunch plate menu is always satisfying. Try the fried won tons!

  • *****

Keep it up! Pretty good. Don't order take out over the internet call it in. They are pretty bad at having take out orders ready on time and the internet orders are pretty much completely missed. The food is pretty good. Standard Chinese fare.

  • *****

Finally! Well priced Chinese delivery that isn't greasy and soggy! Everything was flavorful and delicious.

  • *****

This place deserves far better ratings!! Amazing hole in the wall Chinese restaurant, everything I have ordered has been DELICIOUS! I love their Hong Kong style noodles, beef fried rice & my boyfriend loves their Tao chicken. This place is our go-to Chinese restaurant!

  • *****

Good food and friendly service. I had the mongolian beef and walnut prawns. Very tasty with good texture. Will come back to try other items on the menu.

  • *****

I love Wild Pepper! It's our easy Chinese takeout spot around the corner from our apartment. Now it's not ground-breaking delicious food, but when you're looking for a cheap, greasy Chinese takeout this spot is perfect. We typically order 1 chicken dish (normally Sesame chicken), fried rice, and chow mein. This ends up being enough for THREE meals for both of us (6 portions) for around $20-30 depending on if I have a coupon. The only thing I haven't been crazy about that we ordered was the Mu Shu Pork - too much cabbage and not enough pork. If you're feeling under the weather, the soups always hit the spot!

Overall, if you're looking for a great affordable Chinese takeout spot in the Mission, Wild Pepper is a great choice!

  • *****

First time here and food was delicious. We ordered two different chicken dishes and both where exceptionally made. Will stop by again in the future.
Pricing was REALLY good too, we had lunch specials.

  • *****

After my neighbors stole my delivery, Wild Pepper remade and redelivered my food.
Thank you for doing this for me.
I can't believe my neighbors did this.
It's the first time I ordered from you and your food is great.

  • *****

This place is great!! Food is delicious, but I don't like when you come to a place and they just throw the menus at the table with out saying "hi". Other than that, this place is great!

  • *****

Great food and fast service, even on a stormy day when I had just moved in. I had the orange chicken and curry beef with a side of avocado spring rolls that were delicious. Overall great experience- I'll have try others dishes in the near future!

  • *****

It seems like this place either has really great reviews or really crappy ones. From reading other reviews, though, customers seem to have the most problems with take out delivery and language barrier.

I've eaten here three times now and I've been very happy all three times. Fast highlights: affordable (most dishes under $10), great portion sizes, quality and authentic Chinese dishes, no msg and food is not too oily, peaceful restaurant ambiance w piano music, dishes come out carefully and aesthetically plated, and they take good care of you in terms of service.

Fast downsides: language barrier. The owner, Ming, is very nice. When I asked about the menu, though, I did experience some difficulty understanding what he meant. So that can feel a bit awkward. We ended up switching to Cantonese and had no problems after that. If you don't know Cantonese, though, just try to be patient and ask Ming to speak slowly or ask for another waiter. Sure we are in America, but I think pple should try to be kind and understanding regardless.

    Food experience in detail:
My first two times I ordered the Mongolian beef with rice and vegetables, a pretty basic standard Chinese dish. It was a bit heavy with the onions, but the portion size was pretty generous and the presentation was great. I would definitely recommend this option as a fast and basic it delicious dish if you're not sure what to order.

My third time here, I brought my mom, so I wanted to pick out some more sophisticated Chinese dishes (as Asian moms are not easily impressed eating out, and my mom passes silent judgement on every dish that does not meet her expections..)
So, we ordered (and in order of my recommendation):

    1. West lake beef soup - a creamy, slightly salty Chinese soup that has some mushrooms, beef bits, and egg. It was nice and savory, and enough soup for 3 pple, definitely try this! Presentation of the soup was so pretty, it could have been in a food catalog.

    2. Garlic pea sprout - if you want a Chinese vegetable dish, try this! Pea sprout is usually more expensive at other restaurants but here it was reasonable. Portion size is great, not too oily, slightly salty and garlic taste.

    3. Vegetable spring rolls - yummy appetizer, comes out piping hot. Also I'm a sucker for spring rolls

    4. Wild Pepper seafood basket - an assortment of seafood and vegetables (shrimp, scallops, peas, cucumber, mushroom, broccoli, carrots, etc) cooked together and placed into a crisp bowl-shaped pancake. Best part of this dish was the presentation. The seafood and vegetables were not burnt, was tender and not dry, and just the right amount of oil. The one bad thing was it was a bit saltier than necessary.

    5. Wild Pepper chicken - pretty good. There was chicken, bell peppers, mushrooms, cucumber, tossed together w a flavorful slightly salty sauce. Really yummy with rice. Comes spicy but you can adjust for less or more.

I'm happy to say my mom was happy w the meal (disaster avoided!!) and our total meal cost was about $50 but we ordered so much we basically paid for two dinners for us both. All in all, will definitely be back.

I frequent this place for takeout as it is not far from my house. I pretty much get the same stuff every time: Vegetable Chow Mein, Orange Chicken, Fried Rice and Spring Rolls. I've never been disappointed with my orders, and the price is reasonable. Especially considering how much food you get! Definitely recommend.

  • *****

Good for fast and cheap Chinese food. This place is the quintessential Chinese to go place (you can eat in but we always get it go to watch Netflix at home :) .

Never had an issue and just pain tasty for a casual night.

  • *****

Quick bites, a few tables, grab and go. $1 each dim sum, very fresh...great for to go.
Don't expect a lot of talk... Know what you want or point!!

  • *****

I will come here when I want eat Chinese cuisine, I like General Tso chicken and beef fried rice. so nice.

  • *****

The best lunch in SF under $8. The Kung Pao Chicken is a large and fresh serving, full of good veggies- zucchini, bell peppers, peanuts - and in a delicious savory sauce. Nice presentation on a large ceramic plate with steamed rice and a small green salad, served with hot tea and (a very meh) egg drop soup. All for $7.55 plus tip. Really very good, and plenty left over for tomorrow's lunch. The only negatives: service is perfunctory and not very friendly. And the egg drop soup, as mentioned, can be skipped. But this place is a great find, highly recommend!

My favorite go to Chinese Delivery. The food is seasoned very well and they don't skimp on the meat. Delivery using the Eat 24 App gets to my place way before the time given. My favorite dishes are the Generals Chicken, Fried Brown Rice and the Cashew Chicken. They also provide Chinese spicy oil without having to request it. I've ordered the chow mein as well which is non greasy and tasty. Avocado egg rolls were also great.

  • *****

Really love the food here. Tasty and fresh, and about as good as any neighborhood Chinese restaurant in San Francisco. Can't go wrong.

  • *****

Got a postcard in the mail from Amazon Prime saying try our new restaurant delivery thingy and get a 10% discount. Good, it's been raining and I don't really feel like going outside just to find food, plus there haven't been any halfway decent/edible Chinese delivery places
n't the best but it'll do and they do deliver. We will be ordering again when the craving hits. Just received Season 6 of Game of Thrones in DVD so we'll be binge watching that tonight and eating. Thanks!

  • *****

Wild pepper is a great local joint. Its menu holds tons of classic dishes and I am rarely disappointed by the food. My favorites are the orange chicken and honey walnut shrimp.

  • *****

Got takeaway for Monday lunch and it was exquisite. We had the general tso's chicken and the Szechuan spicy chicken lunch dish and the chicken chow fun.

The servings are massive and I was worrried at first cos the reviews were so bad about the hygiene and service but I think we picked a good day cos the food was delivered pretty fast to us in 30mins. Easy as.

The quality seemed fresh as well!

    Packing was nice too :)

Yum yum yum the general tso's chicken was the highlight and the Szechuan chicken dish!

  • *****

Definitely one of the best chinese in the area that delivers also. Some nights they're a little off, especially when it's busy. But when they're on, it's good.

  • *****

Great place to eat. Delicious, cheap, and portions are huge. The tall Asian guy is hard to understand but other the that a 5/5

  • *****

Good American Chinese food. Sometimes packed, so call ahead or do delivery. Love the walnut prawns and crispy chicken (general Chow's I think)

I will forever have love for this place I went on my first date with my husband here. We return every year for our anniversary. Thanks for the great food and atmosphere

  • *****

Ordered orange chicken and chicken garlic w a side of rice and white meat chicken in both dishes. Total was $23.90 w free delivery. Good food for the price, orange chicken was all meat and tasty but seemed a tad dry. Garlic chicken was too subtle on the garlic w plenty of veggies. Be sure to ask for condiments, 2 meals only came w one packet of hot sauce, one hot sauce and one fortune cookie. Will likely order again.
Update: after posting this, owner responded to me and indicated they will be sure to provide extra condiments for to-go orders :)

Wild Pepper is the new and improved incarnation of the "Long Island Chinese Restaurant" (same owners, different name and location). The food is still tasty, the service is still pleasant and efficient, and the prices are still economical. However, the menu is larger, the venue is larger and prettier, and parking is quite a bit easier. What's not to like?

  • *****

We live up the street and were going to avoid this place, because my darling yet eccentric wife had some kind of strange aversion to the name. (I admit, it is an odd name for a chinese joint) But our neighbors successfully convinced us to get take out from here the other night. It seemed a little on the spendy side, but damn was it ever good! And the portions were big, bordering on huge. There was a fried pork thing that seemed kind of naughty, but I nearly wept with how tasty it was. The spring rolls weren't that amazing, but they did come with the good hot spicy mustard. Eric's (over on Church) is certainly great and always packed, but I'm starting to think it's a little overrated. Despite Wild Pepper's weird name and kind of lonely location, you won't regret it.

  • *****

I think this is the chinese delivery we have been waiting for! We had to stop using our neighborhood place because they were rude, slow, and inconsistent. I found a Wild Pepper menu and decided to give it a shot... boy was I glad I did! The woman was polite on the phone and the food arrived in the time she said it would, and it was just what I wanted! Fresh, lots of vegetarian options, even free fried rice or chow mein with two entrees. Great ingredients, and really tasty. I don't remember Long Island being like this, but if Wild Pepper keeps it up, then they are our new chinese delivery place! Plus I like the name...

    Food: 4
    Service: 3+

This is a very good, affordable option for Chinese in the south Mission. Their egg drop tomato soup is divinely silky and has just the right amount of spice. I also ordered their Hunan hot pepper beef, but they mistakenly made it with pork. When I told them I ordered beef, they were apologetic and immediately rushed to correct my order; however, I was starving and so went with the pork. I would have preferred a bit more heat to the spices - which I'll indicate next time I order - but this was another very strong dish.

Oh yeah, their portions are huge. The soup and pork, with steamed rice, lasted me for two and a half meals!

(I have only had takeout here once, so consider this to be a preliminary review. I definitely plan on returning and will update this review then.)

the other day my girlfriend and i were almost in tears. you see, after one disappointing chinese delivery after another, we pretty much gave up on finding a decent chinese delivery in the mission, and resigned ourselves to firecracker (american chinese)... then one evening after an extremely tough day at work, we were craving chinese but were too tired and lazy to walk a few blocks to firecracker. what to do? what to do? out of sheer desperation, i yelped for chinese in the mission. oh, what's this? wild pepper? hmmm. 4 stars but only 4 reviews. is this legit? should i take a chance? am i going to be disappointed yet again? oh what the hell. it won't be the first time and i'll have another place to yelp about. so i called and spoke to a friendly lady who helped me out with the order. the food arrived within 20 minutes. ok, i only live a few blocks away. so maybe that's not a great accomplishment. however, my food was an outstanding accomplishment. the egg rolls, hot-and-sour soup and wild pepper chicken were all fresh, flavorful and quite delectable. and yes, it was easy on the wallet. now this is how chinese food should be - good and cheap. hell yes, my girlfriend and i were so excited that we were jumping and high-fiving each other. then soon our eyes turned moist as it dawned on us that we've finally found our elusive chinese delivery in the mission. an epiphany indeed... go wild pepper!

  • *****

We were bummed that Eric's wouldn't deliver... until we found this place. This is by far the best delivery option we have found for Chinese food in our neighborhood. Their Wor (boiled) Wonton soup in particular is some of the best I've ever had.

I'll give this place 5 stars because when I'm in the mood for Chinese take-out this place fills the bill perfectly. They're totally courteous on the phone too.

  • *****

Ya-HOO! A good, affordable Chinese place that delivers to my corner of the Excelsior! I'm a happy girl doing the happy dance! I would only be happier if I could order on line or view the menu on line.

    Bah! Such a small detail!

  • *****

Love Wild Pepper. Cheap (21 dollars for two entrees, a combo appetizer plate & FREE fried rice), delicious Americanized Chinese food with no mystery meat, VEGETABLES in the sweet & sour chicken (and pineapple!!), non greasy fried goods, efficient order takers & FAST delivery from the Mission to the Haight. Delivery Chinese is a right, not a privilege and I thank the lord every day for bringing me in touch with Wild Pepper. Thanks Jesus!! You really do love me, don't you?

  • *****

The Mission is hurrd up for decent Chinese food, let alone delivery options. This place is my current favorite, with options for every kind of fussiness, really fast ETAs (which may be down to my lazy ass only being esconced 3 blocks away) and free fried rice or chow mein with only two entrees.

All of the vegetarian stuff I've tried is very satisfying and I echo the sage maria d's "no mystery meat" proclaimation. I mean nothing's "your first sit-down at Nanking" good, but for a bad case of what I call "the hangries", this place could save your life.

They also have an entree called Chili Potato that I've seen nowhere else. It's just potato, sliced noodle-thin and wok-tossed (maybe steamed) with cucumber, bell and chili pepper. Potatoes and chinese food, together again for the first time. I know it's just a lowly spud, but I found it revelation that I could dump my Szechaun Chicken over something besides rice.

  • *****

The food is simple, delicious, on the money. The portions are huge - two entrees is easily enough for three hungry lasses and lads. The vegetarian mu-shu was probably the best. The chili potato was like nothing I have had before. The vegetarian egg rolls were crisp and flavorsome. The brown rice was fluffy and light.

So... what made this experience even more fabulous - 15 minute delivery - that's what!

You read it right - Fifteen... minute... delivery! No.. kidding! It would take me longer to drive there!

  • *****

Yeah, you know, there's not much I can add here: Wild Pepper is my go-to place for tasty takeout. They deliver really quickly, they're super-nice, and the chicken tastes like chicken. I feel comfortable saying YES, this is your new local chinese food establishment.

I know, this review is uninspired, but for god's sake it's just chinese food. But alll the other places in this area are absolute crap, and this is tasty and trustworth.

  • *****

This place is a really great standby for decent Americanized Chinese food. I have only tried their vegetarian dishes, but none of them has let me down. The vegetables are always fresh and never over-cooked; the brown rice is always nice and fluffy. But, the real kicker is that the portions are generous and reasonably priced. A single entree w/ rice will set you up for 2+ good (and healthy) meals. Plus, they have excellent turn-around time for your order.

  • *****

Best chinese food I've found in the Mission. Chicken has the texture of chicken (rather than creamofwheat lumps like other places....that's not poultry.)

  • *****

After reading some hot reviews on Yelp, I decided to switch it up from my regular Chinese delivery option and go with Wild Pepper. Was not disappointed, after last night's meal. The food arrived in about 30 minutes, right on time, piping hot.

The fried rice with shrimp was fluffy and fresh, and served as a nice base for the szechuan chicken, which the guy taking my order recommended. It was a pretty spicy dish, but different from my normal routine, and was thus a welcome change. Of course, it's hard to get it too wrong with moo shoo pork, and theirs was a solid version.

Just a note to all Chinese restaurants in general: I will give you an extra star if you give me at least 8-10 pancakes without me asking or charging me extra. Wild Pepper came with six, which seems like about normal but come on, how is that even close to handle the large serving of pork broth that accompanies? Hmm, something to think about, but I digress.

Oh finally, they threw in two free Sprites, made the meal complete. Will order from them again sometime soon.

  • *****

Three stars if you were looking for Authentic Chinese. Four stars for those who don't mind a western version of Chinese food.

In a pinch? This place will do. What can I say? The Mission isn't exactly known for Chinese food.

Their food is sweetened up a tad to appeal to the Western tastebuds. If you are cool with that you'll probably like this place.

Best of all TGTD! Yes. Thank God They Deliver!

KungPao Chicken, Lettuce Wrap Chicken - YUM!
Hong Kong Style seafood chow mein - pretty decent
Westlake Beef Soup - (It's named something else on the menu) - Good
Dry Fried Chicken Wings - a bit too sweet for me but you may like it.

  • *****

Update - their Sesame Tofu is even better!

Apparently fighting over the remote can quickly build up an appetite. And.... quality programming needs quality delivery. Reluctant to wait out Jasmine Tea House's snail service, I decided to try Wild Pepper. They were patient and clear on the phone and told me the wait would be 40 minutes. I waited for over an hour, so not the speediest service, but it was worth it for the price. Around 14 dollars for slightly fried Kung-Pao Tofu , General Tsao's chicken, brown rice, white rice, and three complimentary spring rolls.

Cheap, mostly white meat, Americanized Chinese food - that sat on our plates for literally 10 minutes, just as America's Next Top...I mean C-Span...no wait America's Next Top Model - cut to commercials. Grrrrrrr.

I'm a class act. Really baby, I mean it.

So when I realized that I hadn't seen a close friend in a long time she suggested that she bring over some DVD and we hang out and catch up. It was a cold and rainy night so I asked her to come my way (what a gentleman?!). I also have a nicer TV and she likes my roommate.

    ANYWAY.

None of us were very hungry when we started the movie and cracked open our first 40oz. Then the real hell began... a movie called 'Nacho Libre' it was so flipping awful I can't begin to tell you. I mean, someone made this movie? Someone signed off on this pile of garbage? Yuck.

Quickly we found the urge to eat but not the bravery to leave the house. Autumn suggested that we get Chinese, so Wild Pepper it was. For $30 we got enough food to feed a small army... mostly because the portions are massive and they give you free noodles or nice or something when you order hella food... I think. I don't really know. I was on 40oz. #3 already.

Moral of the story, have people that like to eat plenty of greasy Chinese food... and know that sometimes I will get down with a 40oz and Styrofoam.

    Class.
    Act.

Cheap price, huge portions, no MSG headache; what's there not to like?

Being lazy does occasionally pay off, especially when it leads you to discover some random gem in the neighborhood. Against my better judgment (and my distaste for those menus that are wedged in your doorway), I decided to order dinner from Wild Pepper, hoping I could get something to eat that at least wouldn't kill me.

I opted for the staples: Mongolian Beef and General Tsao's Chicken. Free fried rice was included with every two entrees, a bonus that was just the beginning of what would turn out to be a great meal. Forty minutes later I opened my door to a really friendly delivery person whom I decided to give a large tip to just because he was especially pleasant throughout the whole experience.

The food was very good and was thankfully absent of the usual homogenized Chinese food qualities. As with all other freebies I expected the fried rice to come in a tiny, one-serving container, so I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that it came in a large carton instead. The portions, in short, were ginormous. Four servings worth.

All in all, for two entrees, an extra single serving of jasmine rice (I expected the free rice to be tiny, remember?), and an especially large tip I paid out $19. For what you get at roughly five bucks a meal keeping in mind both quality and quantity, I'd say that Wild Pepper is totally worth patronizing.

  • *****

Very good food. The Dry Braised Chicken Wings (4 out of 5 as San Tung gets a 5 out of 5) are amazing and the Egg Roll is good too.

  • *****

I really enjoy delivery chinese food. On a cold rainy day there's nothing better than having some hot wonton soup or mongolian beef turn up at my door. My girlfriend on the other hand doesn't really like chinese food - especially of the mystery-meat variety. Wild Pepper is something we can both enjoy. They have good, tasty vegetarian dishes and their meat dishes don't frighten my girlfriend as much as anywhere else we've ordered from. The delivery is quick and food is great.

wow, thank you yelp for sending this find my way. my bf and i often have cravings for chinese food but being that i'm from phoenix and he's from new hampshire and our favorite "authentic" chinese food is from pf chang's, well, let's just say chinese authenticity is lost on us. so, after reading the reviews on yelp, i thought this sounded like our kind of chinese...and boy was i right!

first of all, the delivery guy was the nicest delivery guy i've ever met. the pot stickers, egg rolls and crab rangoons were nothing extraordinary. but the szechuan beef and orange prawns (which i don't even think are on the menu) were out of this world yummy! so yummy actually that i woke up the next morning thinking about wild pepper and had cold leftovers for breakfast. and the best part about wild pepper, it doesn't break the bank!

I just reviewed Jasmine Tea House and realized that I never gave Wild Peppa the props it deserves.

I frequently get delivery from here and decided to stray this evening and ordered from Jasmine Tea House... never again!

Everything about Wild Pepper oozes perfection... the staff, delivery time (and spiffy Toyota Prius delivery car) and food. I haven't had one dish that sucked. My favs include wor wonton and hong-style wonton soup, ginger chicken with bok choy, wild pepper beef, and the pork with string beans.

  • *****

i'm vacillating between 3 and 4 stars here... the meal was definitely a 3 star meal, but given that it was delivery and chinese delivery generally sucks, does it deserve an extra star? i'm not sure...

anyhow, the roomie and i ordered in the other night and chose wild pepper based on yelp. we didn't have a menu (and they don't have a website), so we ordered based on others' reviews: the jalapeno squid, the crispy szechuan beef, and the string beans with tofu. the squid was good--they didn't skim on the seafood and the sauce was nice and spicy. the beef tasted quite good, but i wouldn't call it crispy by any stretch of the imagination. the beans were over cooked, limp, and wrinkled, and the tofu was deep-fried and dripping with grease.

delivery took almost an hour, but they gave fair warning for that.

  • *****

I have had about 5 different meals on Wild Pepper's menu and would rate all of them between good and great. Their delivery service is excellent and they are generally earlier than the expected time frame they give. Their offer of free sodas, egg rolls, or chow mein when you order 2 or more entrees is also an added incentive. Their food is not greasy at all which is rare for Chinese food. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Food and service are great!

  • *****

Aside from the fact that their hot and sour soup recipe seems to change daily, this is totally decent Chinese take out...oh and their vegetables always taste fresh and aren't overcooked. Free chow main or fried rice with every two entrees you order...how can you beat that?

  • *****

This ain't no Eric's but it's the best Chinese delivery thus far. Who knew the random menu on my door step could end up being on the top of my list for delivery. The food is fresh and tasty and they are relatively quick. Huge portions for not that much money. I reccomend the garlic chicken, very tasty with lots of veggies, unless you are going to pick someone up at the air port at 11:30 at night. They will complain the whole ride home that you ARE a giant garlic clove.

  • *****

I hate to admit it but I used to live about 5 houses down from Wild Pepper and I still had them deliver.

  • *****

mmmmmmm! Finally decent chinese delivery in SF! Food was good and tasted fresh. Delivery guy got here in about 40 minutes. It's all good to me.

  • *****

Well, I poured over the reviews trying to decide what to order sans-menu. I am always a sucker for General Tsao's chix, so i asked for that (and it is GOOD, tender, spicy, sweet). Then the phone answerer suggested the crispy beef. I saw that others recommended it so I said OK. (I would NOT order that dish again, the beef is obviously not high quality, but it was like $7 so what was I expecting?)

Two mains came with free chow mein, and I just put a lot of left overs in my fridge...good deal, price for pound.

I feel like if I can find 2-3 really good dishes, this could be a new favorite delivery thing outside of mr.pizza late night deliveries. Someone point me to something tastier than crispy beef! Please?

I planned on leaving the house today. But I did not. I could go into detail as to the reasons why i did not but that's just really depressing so anyway.

I wanted a delicious fake meat sandwich from Love and Haight and then I wanted delicious fake chicken satay from Mekong and then I realllllly wanted a peanut butter and jelly vegan ice cream cone from Maggie Mudds. I wanted to put it all in a blender and drink it in a delicious fake meat and soy cream shake. I know, I know, I'm turning you on. However, none of these (wonderful) assholes deliver and I couldn't muster it up to hop on the J Church. I am pathetic. I am pathetic and I was starving.

So I went through all of the delivery menus in my stack and settled on Wild Pepper as I know Maria D. loves it and she is a woman of delicious tastes. I looked at the Yelp reviews and based on Jessica T. and Kingpin's suggestions, I decided to order the Mu-shu Vegetable and Kung Pao Tofu. I called in to place my order and then I swallowed my pride/shame/a cookie to tide me over and asked,

"I am on Weight Watchers, can I have this stuff made with very little oil and not deep fried?"

It's a little tool I learned in Dub Dub meetings called, "asserting". That's right. You ask for what you need. I love this tool. I use it all the time. I fucking asserted my ass all over the DMV the other day and guess what I got? Almost arrested. But that's beside the point, when it comes to food ordering, this shit works! Double Dub (Sam Z) in ACTION, JACKSON!

Woman on the phone goes, "Oh, yes! You are on a diet! No oil!"

And I said, "YES THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING, YOU ARE WONDERFUL!"

And she goes, "You get free fried rice or chow mein with your order, which you want?"

    FLABOTAGE!!!!! (tm, mark s.)

HAD SHE NOT HEARD A WORD OF WHAT I SAID?!?! DO NOT TEMPT THIS FATTY WITH THE TWO WORDS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE THAT WHEN COMBINED, I CANNOT RESIST, "FREE" and "FRIED". I mean, really. I am only so fucking strong. I thought I would break. I also said, "YES! I'll take one of each, please!" BUT I DID NOT. This is the new me in 2007, people. To quote a college friend who may or may have been a straight-up anorexic making a much needed plea for help that I ignored because, What? I'm drunk! College RULES!, "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!" I'm fucking taking it strong this time. So I say, "May I please have brown rice instead?" And she was cool with that. We reached an understanding. Miss Enabler on the other end of the line knew I wasn't up for her games and manipulations and "doing her job properly whilst dealing with a crazy person" and I knew that I asserted myself in a healthy and hopefully effective manner. That's right. Making strides, ain't nobody gonna hold me down. Oh no, I've got to keep on moooooving. Towards 78 pounds, an ideal weight for someone who stands 5'6".

The food arrived in 30 minutes, cooked perfectly to order and still tasty despite the lack of flavorful oil and flavorful fry. The brown rice was especially good, light and fluffy. The vegetarian mu-shu was really good and I don't care what everyone says about mu-shu not being authentic Chinese and I get laughed at by my Chinese friends whenever I order it and I don't fucking care. I lost your respect when I stopped eating meat. Don't lie. It's okay, I have a little thing called, MORALS. at least give me that as pride and shame are clearly gone. Oh, also, the kung pao tofu was super yum. I would order all of these dishes again...I mean, once I get through this order which could take a year because they give you a lot. The only thing missing was the fake meat but alas, I can go one meal without fake meat product. Now, I know how you meat eaters feel in a vegetarian restaurant. i'd laugh when you freaked out about having to have one meal without artery clogging cow ass or abused and shot up with formaldehyde chicken wing but now I get it. I hate to see a Chinese menu without fake meat on it. Call me a bigot, racist, sexist, what have you. I am all of those things. But I just realized why I didn't want to give Wild Pepper 5 stars and it's because they lack the fake meat factor. Now go review Millennium with your hilarious, "WHERE'S THE BEEF?!" 1-star review. I know you want to and it's so funny and original! Hurry, do it before someone else beats you to it! Oh, wait.

(this whole review is tm, laura b., btw. i know, obnoxious with the tm tm tm. don't worry, i hate me too.)

I'm always a little terrified to try a new chinese place - especially when I limit myself by only those that will deliver. So I was nervous when we went to a friend's house in the Mission last Saturday to watch the fight - of course by the time we get there I'm STARVING, and I want some food, and I want some GOOD food. After thumbing through a handful of menus, Wild Pepper looks like my best bet. But no one knows for sure. So we roll the dice and order up. And it was Y-U-M-M-Y.

We didn't order anything too exotic (kung pao chicken, pork fried rice, broccoli beef, etc.). But each dish had lots of veggies and they're fresh and crispy!! Boo to the spring rolls, but I'd have everything else again.

  • *****

We showed up with 13 people - no problem. Food is excellent and the service is there when needed. All around nice feel, white tablecloths and beautiful authentic Asian furniture.

  • *****

Love this place! Recommendations are some version of their tso chicken and a Mongolian beef combination with ginger rice. GO ahead - splurge and get yourself either the free egg rolls or the free soda they throw in with each en tree.
For Chinese delivery you really can't beat this place. The delivery is a mix of the Mexican speedy Gonzales and a Chinese man in a Hyundai. Sweet right... right
    Service with a smile!

Update--I've ordered for delivery @ home a couple of times now, too. The sweet & sour pork was awful; it was really dry and chewy/hard. Everything else is good that I've had--just don't order fried meat dishes. We really shouldn't anyway, right? ;o)
    ----------------
I've ordered lunch for my office of about 20 people twice from Wild Pepper, and both times everyone loved it. It's cheap, they take credit cards and they deliver. Plus, the manager Dave is really nice and will work with your budget and headcount to suggest what to order.

Today we got 5 pounds each of:
    chicken chow mein
    vegetables
    szechwan pork
    veg fried rice
Total including tax $99 (plus tip for nice delivery guy).
That's 20 lbs of food for 20 people at about $5 a head.
They even bring plates, napkins and large serving utensils.

The other time my budget was only $75 plus tip, and we got white rice instead of fried, with different entrees. He worked with my budget to feed all of us.

    And the food is great!

Wild Pepper is one of the best Chinese restaurants west of the Great Wall. Now, I may be exaggerating slightly, but as a lover of Chinese food and a fan of quick, easy, inexpensive take-out, Wild Pepper gets my vote as the best in the city on both accounts.

My favorites include the Kung Pao Chicken ($6.95), the Szechuan Crispy Beef ($8.95), and the Pork Chow Mein ($5.95). Order 2 entrees and you get your choice of fried rice or chow mein for free. The rice always comes out just right. Yeah, I know this shouldn't be a stretch for a Chinese restaurant, but I've had take-out from other places where not even the basics like the rice were satisfactory.

Service is always fast and friendly. One time I was told that my food would be ready in about 10 minutes and in my abundance of excitement I got there in 9 minutes. They threw in a free Diet Coke for my wait - all of about one minute. I usually go there to pick up my order, but am amazed that they will deliver from the Mission to Miraloma Park. Several other items like the string beans, eggplant, and tofu have all been good as well. Try this place, you will love it.

  • *****

After reading the 1-star reviews and finding them all to be related to delivery, we were leery about getting delivery, especially having never tried the restaurant. We thought we would risk it, so we ordered seven entrees - two veggie, two shrimp, crispy beef, crispy pork, wild pepper chicken, plus veggie egg rolls. As it says on the menu, order two entrees and get fried rice or chow mien - we got the rice. This was for eight people, and we polished off most of it, leaving just enough for two plates of leftovers. I usually don't eat leftovers from a Chinese restaurant, but I did this time and it was still good.

First off, I placed the order at 6:15 and was told it would be 30-45 minutes. 27-minutes later, the doorbell rang. We live about 3-miles and maybe 10-minutes drive from the restaurant, so it took them 17-minutes to prepare our seven entrees! Not too shabby.

The garlic mixed veggies were firm and perfectly cooked. The eggplant was a little mushy, but overall tasty. The picky vegetarian in the group who claimed not to usually like eggplant did enjoy this dish. The two shrimp dishes were practically indistinguishable except for the squid in one. Both were tasty, although the squid was a little chewy - it IS squid after all.

The Szechuan crispy beef was awesome. The crispy pork and wild pepper chicken were also really good. I was a little disappointed that we didn't' get more fried rice - it seemed that whether you order two entrees or seven, you may get the same amount of the 'free' fried rice. The veggie egg rolls were yummy, too - crispy outside and flavorful.

We all finished with the tingle of chili and white pepper in our mouths, but not so much as to be uncomfortable. The heat on these dishes was perfect and enhanced the flavors instead of simply being hot.

Overall, a really good meal, especially for delivery. Ended up being about $9/person plus tip to the driver.

  • *****

So I ordered from Wild Pepper as I often do, and the driver arrived with my order. Much to my dismay, I was short on cash by $2. What was even more surprising was the driver said, "don't worry, you can make it up next time." Wow, hookups from the chinese delivery guy, how often do you see that level of service?

WP is awesome. Cheap, relatively healthy for chinese food, quick delivery, solid food. They give you free fried rice with every order. They deliver usually in under 30 minutes. And their food is relatively non-greasy. Key establishment for the mental and physical well being of the locals here.

  • *****

Just got delivery from this place, super good, high quality and actually did a bit of presentation in the delivery containers. They forgot the pancakes for my Mu-shu pork, but hey, it happens. All together impressive for delivery.

  • *****

ok, I order from here almost every Sunday...it's a ritual.

great food, great delivery. I've never even seen what this place looks like, but I'll keep ordering as long as they keep delivering!

  • *****

We order there at least once a week. This is how it goes... Sunday, run behind the kids all day, feed the twins at 6:00, food all over the floor, bath, the bathroom is a disaster, play before bed, toys everywhere, the kids are in bed, we look at each other... we don't even have to talk - pick up the phone- order Chinese - hop in the car - get a video while, A cleans up the food from the floor... the bathroom can wait... delivery is always prompt, service is great (with a heavy Chinese accent), folks are friendly food is what you expect. Once we had to wait a long time because they screwed up the address, the delivery guy was apologetic and insisted on giving us a 10% discount.

  • *****

Good, Fast and as fresh as Chinese can get. I would have it delivered again for sure.

  • *****

This is place is good, but not great.

I had szechuan chicken, came with black bean sauce, carrots, onions, peppers and zucchini. And rice and an egg roll. A little oily, but fresh and flavorfull. Service was off, i think they were understaffed, so i had to wait for simple things. But $4.95 at lunch - hard to be that!!

  • *****

Love it. Hot, FAST delivery. Ample amounts of food at an excellent price.

It isn't the most homemade of Chinese places, or the most chock full of fresh veggies either. But, when you are ordering Chinese delivery, it is best not to set your expectations too high!

Regardless, Wild Pepper is consistent, friendly, fast, and affordable.
And their portions will last me for 2-3 meals!

  • *****

Alway fresh, never overcooked. No gristle or overly fatty meat. "Vegetables" means an actual lovely variety of, you guessed it, vegetables, not just onion and broccoli. Rarely greasy. Delicious! We try other places from time to time; but we know where we're going to get the good stuff!

  • *****

Love me some Wild Pepper. Fast delivery, great food, and free goodies on occasion. I love their Wild Pepper Triple Delight the most.

  • *****

Wild Pepper is an excellent addition to the Noe Valley neighborhood. It is a casual place with friendly and at tentative service. Szechwan and Hunan are the name of the game, (needless to say they have mild dishes.) Pot stickers have crispy golden exterior that is also firm and filled with a savory mixture of pork, cabbage, and ginger and other seasonings. Green onion pancakes are are light, crispy, and greasless with a perfect balance of dough and green onions with a creamy peanut butter-like dipping sauce. Wild pepper chicken is the bomb with Szechwan chili pepper flakes, carrots, celery, and a sauce of chili oil which compliments the tender chicken slices and vegetables. Lemon fish is crispy with a greasless batter and a thick but not overpowering and too thick of a lemon sauce. Jade shrimp is succulent with fresh spinach, bamboo shoots, and fresh bean curd in a light sauce. The house special lo mein is a plethora of ground pork, onions, and a mild brown sauce that tasted like it could have been bean sauce (what am I saying, it was just that.) I will definitely be returning to try the won tons in chili sauce, ants climbing up a tree, and the Szechwan crispy beef. As I say in all of my reviews, great food, service, atmosphere, and prices; what more could you ask for?! Oh,! I enjoyed the Kenny G music which they had playing (probably his Greatest Hits, Best of, or Very Best Of CD.) It made the experience all the more enjoyable and relaxing. Hopefully, I should be going back in another month or two or three.

  • *****

i have to give this place 4 stars because one its pretty cheap, two i always order the hong kong style crispy noodle and they are always as yummy as the last order i placed!! three my co-worker nick who i always order food with from here on the night we work together loves the beef chow fun, and lastly because the delivery is very quick!!

  • *****

Great unpretentious little place with nice people and decent food. I always order their veggie dishes and I've never been disappointed.

  • *****

Great Chinese! Even better price! I've only gotten delivery so I don't know what the restaurant looks like but I'll live in a fantasy world imagining it's as well kept as it gets.

  • *****

Went inside one time to eat. Not such an impressive atmosphere. Kind of reminds me of the family Chinese food places we would go to as a kid. The food, however, is superb. Seriously! We order take out from there at least once a month- the one day I don't cook. Their crab rangoon is like little fried bites of heaven. I love their spicy dishes, marked with a "pepper" on the menu- this means hot, folks. By the time I hang up the phone, after placing my order, they're knocking at my door with my delivery asking where the big dog is- Kenya, my great dane, loves to scare delivery people, and I'm beginning to think they like being scared by her.

  • *****

Like many, I've never been to the restaurant, just gotten delivery, but they are lightning fast! I usually have my food within 20 minutes. The sesame beef, crab rangoon and string bean chicken are good, the Wild Pepper chicken special was drowning in too many vegetables. Overall, a good option for take out, especially with the free chow mein or fried rice with 2 entrees as a nice bonus!

  • *****

What a great little joint! I can't vouch for the sit-down service as I've only had take-out for lunch while at work. The portions here are monstrous and well worth the $6 you put down for one of their 'Lunch Specials'. I haven't seen this kind of General Tsao's in California before. It is like New England chinese-american food only prepared a good deal cleaner. The specials come with a spring roll and side egg-drop soup. Fantastic and clean!! If you are hungry, in the area, and are looking for a good chinese-american meal then stop here. Tasty!

  • *****

good vegetarian options. the mu shu vegetable is really good, as are the veggie postickers (sometimes hard to come by!). This places offers free delivery, so I'd say go for that, although the ambiance is much better than most cheap chinese restaurants.

  • *****

Sure, Wild Pepper ain't the best Chinese food you'll ever eat, but when you're hungry for good, quick take-out, WP is perfect. My roommates and I order from here a few times per month. Quick delivery (usually), reasonable prices, large portions. I am a fan. For about $20 I can get enough food to last me 3 days (free chow mein when you order 2 or more entrees).

  • *****

    This place rocks!

Unlike almost every other chinese place in the mission, the food is EXCELLENT. The wait staff are very friendly and the service is great.

If you come here for lunch, you can get tea, a huge plate of quality chinese food and rice PLUS an egg roll for like 6 bucks. Its an unbelievable deal.

Come for lunch some day, you won't regret it.

  • *****

Authentic Chinese cuisine this is not, but I'm still glad this place is in my neighborhood. It's all the good of the cheesy mall chains like Panda Express (cheap, comforting) but with better ingredients and a little more love. Let's face it, I feel guilty ordering orange chicken no matter where I go, but sometimes that's what I want. All the better if it's good enough that it doesn't stop up my intestines afterward, no?

The staff is friendly and quick. The prices (especially lunch specials) are great for the huge portions. Expect leftovers if you order an entree - it's actually the perfect amount to split. Considering that, two people can eat for less than ten dollars.

Wild Pepper is a solid choice if you're craving affordable Chinese fast food.

  • *****

The Lunch Special is a must do...

    $4.95-$5.95=heaps o' food!

We got the Calamari with Black Bean Sauce and the Prawns with Tofu in Lobster Sauce, both made spicy. (although not quite "picante" enough for my fire retardant mouth)

The Calamari, DELISH! perfectly seasoned with lotsa calamari, which was well cooked, not too chewy.

The Prawns, a little underseasoned, it was missing something. Not unedible, but bland nonetheless.

Oh, and the lunch specials also came with two free egg rolls, which since they were free, they tasted awesome.
    Free food always tastes better.

For $13 we got lunch for two hungry ladies, and leftovers for dinner.

Not the best, but for a cheap, tasty lunch, I'd give it go again.

  • *****

I've been getting delivery from Wild Pepper for a couple of years, but tonight was the first time I got the opportunity to eat at the restaurant. Take-out has always been adequate and reliable, but my two favorites - General Tsao's chicken and sesame beef are so much tastier when eaten in the restaurant. All the yummy oh-so-bad-for-you crispiness of the fried dishes are somewhat lost in translation when delivery is involved.

The service is somewhat marginal (this place does a ton of take-out and delivery, so the phone is always ringing) but your order comes out quickly. And, of course, you get the fried rice or chow mein free when you order two entrees.

    Hooray for fried food.

  • *****

I just placed an order and it arived in 10 minutes. Whoa. Not sure if that's great or highly suspect.

Wild Pepper is the best Chinese within delivery distance of me. And I have tried some interesting things here - most of which were passable, a few that were sublime (Wild Pepper Chicken). Ask for anything with steamed veggies and customize a healthy dish with the sauce of your choosing (I like the spicy and the garlic).

Now, I am a conossieur of sizzling rice soup and get it every time. What's weird is that depending on the day, it's either incredibly forgettable, or spectacular. Last week, it was packed with fresh, totally never-canned veggies including asparagus, cooked perfectly (not boiled to death) and lots of shrimp and white meat chicken. Tonight, mostly broth, weak veg variety. Next time I'm going to make a specific request and be sure my soup is made on the spot (asparagus, please!).

Once I got the Beef on the Sticks, and if that meat was beef, you'd have to convince me with a DNA test. So gross.

I love the simple cucumber salad, and the chili potato is an interesting alternative to noodles - basically a riced semi-raw potato dressed in vinegar and chili flakes. never seen anything like it, not sure i could reproduce it.

I have this one friend who will not pay more than $6 for a full meal. He'll even risk food poisoning to avoid paying more than he'd like to. Needless to say we really don't have a lot of options when we do lunch, because I avoid his risky restaurant adventures, and he avoids my pricey favorites. When we found Wild Pepper we were both happy. The food was affordable, and delicious. I had an eggplant dish with shrimp and chicken. It was a lunch special so it came with soup, egg rolls and rice. All of this for about $5.99.
The place was clean, quiet, and is conveniently located close to my home. The only thing I found suspicious was the lack of customers. Hmmm.... Maybe there was something I missed.

  • *****

I order delivery all the time from this place. The crispy beef and sesame chicken are particularly good! Delivery time is really fast, reasonable prices, and totally delicious.

  • *****

I ordered delivery from here and I'm always a little worried when I do that. I'm sure it will arrive cold and the presentation will be awful. I go in expecting the worst so when it doesn't happen I am overjoyed.

    Consider me overjoyed.

They came right between their estimate, the were polite with my dog who certainly was NOT polite to them. (Lots of loud barking) When I took it all out of the bag, it looked great. Nothing was crammed into those square white "to go" boxes. They used a combo of the boxes and a big box.

I'm still eating the leftovers and not sharing with the dog at all. I have only had delivery from here, but I look forward to sitting in their place and eating there. Other than the surroundings and the place setting, I assume I will be having the same great tastes.

I'm sure you'll enjoy this place as I did.

  • *****

good chinese. They hook it up with free egg rolls or chow mein if you order over $20. A good spot to get delivery if you live in mission or noe valley.

  • *****

I have been ordering from Wild Pepper since before it was Wild Pepper (I can't remember what it was called back then). I stayed loyal when the change happened- and I have to say it's pretty solid. I don't think this city is very strong in its Chinese food delivery options- and I just started ordering from them because I had their menu, and compared to other places- its for sure one of the best ones I've had. I went on yelp and I just didn't agree with a lot of the nay-sayers on here. I've literally ordered from this place dozens of times- and its just pretty darn solid. Not amazing, not out of this world like many SF restaurants- but for Chinese delivery- I keep ordering over and over again. For me that says a lot.

    Here are the good things:

    1. Their soup is consistently excellent. I've ordered the corn chicken soup when I've been really sick- and usually I don't eat meat that comes from questionable sources- but no matter- it was darn right great each time I've had it.
    2. Their delivery is really fast
    3. I always get free fried rice with my order (even when I haven't ordered the 2 entrees like they ask for)
    4. Their food isn't overly greasy - sometimes its borderline- but not nearly as bad as I've seen it from a lot of Chinese delivery places.
    5. They're really nice on the phone, fast- but nice. Like I said they've given me the free fried rice even when I didn't exactly meet the criteria.
    6. I tried another place that I found on yelp recently - which had higher reviews. I ordered from there a couple times- but for whatever reason I came back to Wild Pepper.

    Here are the so-so things:
    1. A couple times i ordered stuff that was just blah- but that was a long time ago at this point- and it hasn't happened in quite a while.
    2. Well...hmmm...that's really it.

Like I said it's totally not AMAZING - but its solid. It does the job- and pretty darn well too. I'm happy when i'm done eating & I guess thats what counts.

  • *****

Basic good Chinese food delivered promptly in the neighborhood. Large portions. Wish they did not deep fry the pot stickers though. Usually have drunken beef, sweet and sour chicken. No the greatest Chinese food around but very decent, consistent and prompt delivery. I will continue to order out from here.

  • *****

For a tiny restaurant, this place has big portions and big taste. I have been here 3 times now and I have yet to try something that I dont like. Everything, so far tastes great. The prices are reasonable as well. Oh yah and they deliver to my part of town.. yahooo

  • *****

My boyfriend and I love this place. Their menu has a big section for Vegetables, another big section for "Meatless Chicken" dishes, and another smaller section for their Healthy Dishes, which are basically steamed vegetables with the sauce served on the side. The first time we went, we got the wontons as an appetizer (not bad), one of the "healthy" vegetable dishes (not bad either), and one of the meatless chicken dishes, which was excellent. Next time we ordered the tofu spinach mushroom soup (EXCELLENT), the garlic meatless chicken (came with veggies) (EXCELLENT), and the eggplant (also EXCELLENT). Both times, the bill totaled exactly $30 including tax and tip. And both times we were STUFFED beyond belief. Now that we know what to order, this place is tasty and an awesome deal! Can't wait to go back.

  • *****

So far, so good. Wish they'd crank up the spice, though. If they did, they'd be next to perfect. All dishes ordered so far are consistently delicious. Super fast and accommodating.

I go here often to eat in, the food is pretty good, being that I havent found another good Chinese food in the Mission, they do take a while sometimes to bring the check thuogh. I did delivery the other day they got there pretty fast- not even 20min! The food was hoooot and too much! (Not spicy enough though!)

  • *****

I really like this place. The food is very good and vegetarian friendly. Most people get take out, but if you choose to dine in you can head over around 10 and they're open. The fare is not "run-of the mill- chinese food." Their string beans and tofu in dry garlic are really superb, and their black bean sauce and mixed veggies really hit the spot. It is a great choice for delivery, pick up or dine in place.

  • *****

Good food, friendly service, delivery, great prices, huge portions... I've tried several Noe Valley chinese restaurants now (Eric's, Alice's, Henry's Hunan, Tung Sing) and none of them compare to Wild Pepper. The food is very good. Its flavorful and not overly greasy. They give you a huge amount of food at affordable prices. $25 can feed 4 mid-size people! The staff is very friendly and the delivery service is very convenient.

I tried the eggplant chicken and the crispy beef, as well as the hot and sour soup. All of it was to my liking. I will definitely be ordering from Wild Pepper again.

  • *****

I love Wild Pepper! Granted it's not the fanciest place in the world, but if you take it for what it is, you won't be disappointed. That is, if you live close by and want super fast, decent Chinese food, this is your place! Every time my husband and I would order from here, we would joke that were "worried" about the delivery guy if he hadn't arrived within 10 minutes of placing our order. They're really that fast! My husband loves the Happy Clay Pot, I opt for the healthy menu (which I love since most Chinese places have no or maybe one healthy option). The brown rice is great and at $1 is a great deal! I recommend Wild Pepper to anyone who wants reasonably priced, good quality, quick Chinese food delivery.

  • *****

Three thumbs up for a speedy delivery. Thanks Wild Pepper for hooking it up.

Solid Chinese food, but tads on the pricey side. Vivid flavors and no MSG, they promise! I'd recommend it to my friends, and I'd recommend it to you, too.

  • *****

I go to wild pepper regularly for lunch.

Overall the flavor is good, ingredients fresh, portions plentiful.

The Dining Room is clean, and has a reasonable level of noise.

It has a nice location, tucked out of the way.

  • *****

Very good stuff. SOME mystery meat...not gonna lie to you...but the price is right. The lunch special, you just can't pass it up. $5.95 for some chicken, rice, eggroll, and even a soup. It's a good deal...and great Crab Rangoon. Some places miss the mark on the Crab Rangoon, but this place nails it in my book.

  • *****

This place couldn't be better for what I needed today -- good, cheap veggie Chinese food quickly delivered to my place in the Mission. The delivery guy was here in like 20 minutes and the curry vegi chicken was absolutely great. My personal favorite was the broccoli in garlic sauce that's listed under the Salads section of the menu. For 3.95, you get a whole container of perfectly cooked broccoli, which sounds like a simple thing, but you'd be surprised how badly some places can screw up my favorite green vegetable. My only (very mild) complaint is that there was a bit too much squash and zucchini for my liking, but that's more of my own personal issue. Wild Pepper has a new loyal customer, whose name is me!

  • *****

Tasty food, with lots of vegetarian options. Very fast delivery, and CHEAP! 4 of us ate with leftovers for under $30 including tip. How can you beat that??? Plus the free chow mein was icing on the cake.

  • *****

3.5 A clean and friendly restaurant that delivers.

So the name says it all and I ordered the wild pepper chicken. I had to order white rice separately, but would have ordered chow mein or brown rice. For $9.80 you easily get enough food for two meals, unless you have a tape worm, and it was flavorful with tender chicken and fresh peppers.

Walnut shrimp was ordered too. The candied walnuts were good and the shrimp was breaded which is a bit different from the norm, however, the shrimp was good.

I would definitely come here again if I am in the mood for some Asian food.

  • *****

Love it. I decided to write a review because my OTHER delivery place got my business because the have Pork Buns ....BEHOLD! So now does Wild Pepper!

Its not the best Chinese food ever but it is consistently good and the delivery service is fast and friendly. I am a regular now and wish they would get some sort of record system to hold my address and credit card number.... but that might be a little high tech for them..

ThumbsUP - Fast and friendly delivery!
ThumbsDOWN - Crispy Beef is good when its good - shoe leather when its not

  • *****

I'm not usually a fan of fake meat, but their meatless chicken (in particular, cooked a la Szechuan) is pretty tasty in its own right.

Not the most authentic, but it's good, and the delivery is fast. All three times I've ordered from them, they have delivered my food before their original estimate.

I think they will become a regular on my delivery circuit (which I'll never admit having outside of this review).

  • *****

Oh man, this is such a good take out chinese place. My wife and I order from here a few times a month. I could pass on their pork buns, but their potstickers and chow mein are pretty damned good.

  • *****

Ok - if you're originally from the 'burbs you'll know what I'm talking about...Sometimes you just want the comfort of familiar, slightly greasy, take home and eat in your pj's Chinese take out, you know? A menu filled with chow miens and sweet & sour meats and deep fried egg roles. (Please do not include Panda Express in my sentiments as no one should be eating there - yuck!)

Now with San Francisco being one of the largest Chinese communities in the country, finding this American (and I mean that) staple is somewhat hard. There are many authentic Cantonese, Taiwanese, Mandarin (and so on) restaurants here in our fair city. With that said, Wild Pepper is a suburbanites dream!!

The General Tsao's chicken was fantastic - sweet, spicy, crunchy
The veggie chow mein was packed with veggies and the noodles were thick in texture, but thin in consistency, just the way Americanized Chinese food should taste.

I will definitely be ordering Take out from here again. The ambiance of the restaurant seemed a bit sad (but maybe cus no one was in it).

  • *****

I used to live right next door to this restaurant and I couldn't walk by the place without drooling -- a Pavlovian response to one of their dishes.

First I want to say that I've been to Eric's and a number of other Chinese places in the city that are supposed to be amazing and I still like Wild Pepper better. For another, it's way more low key than Eric's which to me is deafeningly loud and always a mad house with people getting to go orders. Another one of those places that everyone thinks is good because everyone else says it's good.

Wild Pepper is not that attractive or charming but the staff are friendly, the food is really good and it's super cheap. It's a hole in the wall but I've always walked out really happy. I've also brought people here from out of town who loved it as well.

The portions are huge. I've never finished a dish but was happy to bring home the leftovers which (another hallmark, tasted just as good the next day). I love the Monk's Garden soup which is full of fresh vegetables and comes in a huge tureen that I've never been able to finish (seriously, 3-4 people could eat this). The vegetarian Mu Shu is amazing as well. But the dish that makes me drool is called Chili Potato. It's so simple but is like nothing I've ever eaten. It's like Chinese mac and cheese! Drooooool.

  • *****

Wow, just ordered take-out from this place. Having been disappointed so many times with greasy, overdone or undercooked, skimpy Chinese food experiencing this place was a saving grace. Wild Pepper is extremely well priced, friendly, fast delivery, not greasy, HUGE portions AND they don't skimp on the veggies! Try it and you'll be hooked - once is just NOT enough.

  • *****

This place is awesome for delivery.
I had the General tso chicken and szechwan beef
They tossed in a free chicken cow main.
The food was piping hot and fresh.

  • *****

I base this review on consistency, price and service. I always get delivery. It is always prompt and the food tastes like it is supposed to.... and without tons of crazy gooey sauce filled with MSG. I suggest this magnificently decent, cheap Mandarin food to whomever has that special craving.

  • *****

This place rocks. To reiterate the sentiment a few reviews down, its the quintessential american style chinese food, perfect for delivery movie night. Free chow mein or fried rice when you order 2 entrees?? Icing on the cake. Unfortunately I moved to North Beach out of their delivery zone, its probably the thing I miss the most about noe "low-key" valley. The general taos and kung pao shrimp were my go to, as well as mongolian beef. But nothing I ever ordered disappointed. My favorite in the whole city.

  • *****

We got delivery in 15 minutes! So speedy, I couldn't have made one of those frozen stir fry thingies any faster.

I really enjoyed our food - so affordable and generous portions. Hot and Sour soup is very filling and if you're feeling like you've ordered too much take out - the healthy plate is pretty good. I got the steamed veggies and chicken with Szechuan sauce on the side and the veggies were crisp and the chicken was white breast meat. Good heat to the sauce too. Certainly made me feel better about myself for ordering take out!

We also got General Tsao's chicken and can't get over how they perfectly fried those tasty pieces of chicken.

Now I feel like having more of their food, maybe a $6 lunch is in order.

  • *****

Thank you my fellow yelpers for doing me so good!

Delivery came in 15 minutes despite the 45 minute promise over the phone. General Tsaos and Kung Pao Chicken because I couldn't decide and I'm a huge chicken lover. Oh and of course, Fried Brown Rice! mmmmm. General Tsaos was delicious sweet and tangy ( Not so crispy due to delivery?) Kung Pao did have an overwhelming amount of veggies but it was refreshing along with my other chicken dish. Although I do have enough food to feed myself and a small army for about a week or so I have to say that I will be coming back for more. Reasonable Prices and FREE fried rice or chow mein with any two main dishes!

    4 stars for
    "Yay! Im a fan."

  • *****

It was a multi-day craving for Chinese food that drove us to Yelp in seek of something tasty...and we were led us to this place. Thx Yelp! Great food delivered at a great price...

Our menu: Crispy Beef, Pot Stickers (Pork) and Chicken Lo Mein... I was a little confused when the the guy who answered the phone described Lo Mein in detail (twice!)...

Strange we thought...well turns out it isn't on the menu, but it should be. It was some of the best Lo Mein we've ever had. It was perfectly cooked, had the right amount of seasoning and sauce. The other food was good too...

Only negative was the long delivery time - took about an hour. But can't really fault them - last delivery on a Sunday night I guess. A little hard to complain when they custom made a dish for us...

  • *****

It's taken me a while to find a good Chinese restaurant in the Mission. What I particularly like about this place are the awesome veggie options.

I also felt the portions were extremely generous for the price, which is also quite affordable and comparable to other Chinese places. Overall, I also felt the quality of the Chinese food was definitely well above par.

  • *****

Wild Pepper is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the world.
Its totally not one of those pansy joints known as best Chinese in SF but thoroughly boring when you get there.
    It is so amazingly delicious.
My fiancee and I are both vegan, and Wild Pepper always takes care of us.
We have also taken a lot of non-veggies here, and they all love it.
Definitely get the soft tofu with chili and scallion appetizer, the veggie potstickers, the general's tofu, and the asparagus in black bean sauce.
If you let them know your dietary special needs they totally respect them.
So, to the lady who got meat in her food, c'mon, your vegan, you know you gotta say it like ten times when you order your food, and to those peeps complaining that its not spicy enough, try the chili sauce. There's two kinds on the table.
I love my food SUPER SPICY and nothing is ever spicy enough for me, but that is my idiosyncrasy.
We love this place so much that since we have moved 30 miles away, we still come here regularly.
    WILD PEPPER ROCKS. Nuff said.

  • *****

The food here is awesome! Very good chicken wings. Must try. Big portions as well! Most importantly good service! Place looks highclass!

  • *****

Feeling under the weather? Need to clear your sinuses? Skip the pharmacy and just come here instead! The spices and hot and sour soup made my sinuses so clear, better than any medicine I have ever taken!

Their lunch specials range between $5 and $7. It comes with your choice of a dish (chicken, beef, tofu, and vegetable varieties). Their Wild Pepper Chicken was not a lunch special but the waiter told me he would make it for me! It was only $6.50 and came with soup and a huge serving of white rice. It was a good amount of food for the price and I left more than stuffed. That's a steal for anything in San Francisco.

Overall, the quality of the food was good, but not great. Would have only given three stars but because I feel nearly 100% after eating here, I gave one more!

  • *****

I think the rice mixup from the first time I went was a fluke. I've since been back 2 or 3 times, and have ordered and received the fried brown rice every time.

I'm upgrading this review to 4 stars because:
    1. Fried brown rice option - healthier!
    2. Huge portions - it definitely lasts me a few meals.
    3. Accepts credit cards - rare in the Mission!

  • *****

My gf and I stumbled upon this place recently and have been twice since. I can't remember the last time I had Chinese food this good. We especially liked the Green Onion Pancake appetizer, the mu shu (chicken and veggie are good). It is cheap and has free delivery!

  • *****

i wanna get some chinese food at downtown but theres one next to my place. it was quiet, not a lot people inside but the food was perfect. i love the szechuan chicken they are very hot and delicious.. friendly service thumbs up

  • *****

The new management has made Wild Pepper our favorite Noe Valley/Mission Chinese. All the dishes we've tried so far (hot & sour soup, seafood soup, kung pao prawns, mushu chicken and others) have been flavorful and have been completely free of the gloppy sauces or icky sweetness that seem to plague other Chinese spots in the vicinity. The place is nice enough looking and the bathroom spotless.
The only small flaw on our last visit was that the wrappers for the mushu were stone cold, but that was quickly forgotten when filled with a most delicious filling. Prices are extremely reasonable. Great to have them nearby!

  • *****

An enjoyable fresh meal served graciously by attentive staff in an attractive setting. All of the right touches evident as you walk through the door, including the classy bathroom, which to me is always a hallmark of a good restaurant. We look forward to many fabulous meals here.

  • *****

i dream about their sweet and sour meatless chicken at night.

    nuff said.

  • *****

Wild pepper is delicious! But I highly recommend ordering in opposed to eating in the restaurant. It is obvious if you ever walk in the door that this restaurant services on their delivery and take out business. The place is usually empty if you were to go inside.. and when you eat in you get smaller portions and the costumer service is not the best...

My favorites are the general tao chicken, pot stickers, wor wonton soup and the egg rolls... not a big fan of the sizzling beef.. Great chinese food if you are in the mood!

    Oh and super quick delivery!

  • *****

I'M SUCHA FAN! i too dream about their meatless chicken! deep fried deliciousness.

i've tried their orange meatless chicken - which has an amazing sweet-savory sauce and they actually throw in shaved orange rinds to enhance the flavor. yum. their general tsao meatless chicken is even better. amazing sauce!

really bummed they don't deliver to my NOPA 'hood. so instead i hit up Big Lantern if i want chinese delivery to my area...not AS good but still tastey w/ vegetarian options.

  • *****

This place is one of my go to chinese take-out joints! So far they haven't disappointed me with my take out cravings. I'm completely obsessed with their dry braised chicken wings (on the chef specialties list). It's so flavorful and drenched in their yummy sauce. I can live off of that dish for days on end.

  • *****

I've never visited the actual location, but this is my favorite delivery, bar none.

The food from here is so yummy! There are tons of tofu and meatless chicken dishes for vegetarians like me. I love the five flavor meatless chicken so much that I think I singlehandedly made it one of the restaurant's most popular items on delivery.com . It's like crack. I've ordered it three times in one week, and that's six meals at least, because the portions are very generous. Delivery is always very very fast. Sometimes TOO fast - one night about 10-15 minutes after I had placed my order, my dog was barking and I was trying to get her to shut up, but it was because the delivery guy was there already! Poor guy was waiting by the door for awhile since I didn't think it was possible he could be there already and hadn't heard the knock over the barking. Oh yeah, and they have brown rice!

MMM I think I'm about to order from here right now, in fact!

  • *****

    Why I'm a fan:

    1. Generals Tsao Chicken - perfectly crisp, not drenched in sauce. Ask for it not spicy if you can't hang. They do put hot peppers in and I have to ask them to hold back.
    2. Mango & Papaya w/Chicken - rather random, sweet light honey glaze - lots of red & green bell peppers which were nice & crunchy not mushy.
    3. Egg Foo Yuen (pardon the spellng) - comfort food in China I bet.
    4. Consistency!!!
*plus 1/2 extra star for their house jasmine green tea that is so delicate and perfect

My brother and I have ordered takeout & delivery from here several times. Today I finally went there to actually sit and enjoy lunch with a friend.
This stuff matters to some of us - - - a Clean restroom!! Yippee, no bleach smell or wantony soggy towels in a corner bucket that once upon a time housed pickles! Just please, for the love of God or Jah or Yahweh or Buddha, remove the pink Softsoap and get a nice soap dispenser to match the effort you guys put to make the restroom modern. Flourescent pink Softsoap is a fashion violation anywhere near granite. But I digress (UPDATE: the pink stuff has since been replaced, guess they listen!!)

About a half full dining area, lots of obvious regulars, many were greeted with a handshake... it was like Cheers but minus the bar and with intoxicating Chinese melody in the background. I'm serious. Nice music.

Oh, and 'Happy buddha' entree makes for a happy belly too!

Only downfall is that if you order fir delivery and they screw up, may God or the above mentioned Buddha help you because phone communication is NOT their strength.

  • *****

Have you been reading yelp reviews for the past hour trying to decide where to eat?

Well put down your phone/computer/whatever and go to this place, you'll love it.

Oh yeah, and try the sesame meatless chicken!

  • *****

Delivery par excellance. They got here fast. The prices are good, portions big, not greasy! Fresh asparagus. Great brown rice. Ordered online - was easy and easy to customize the order. ROCK SOLID!

  • *****

Wild pepper is right up the street from me but I am a lazy bastard so I always get delivery, you can order it online too so you dont even have to bother dialing the phone. Lazy points +1

The food is good too, Its standard american chinese fare but is always fast and hot.

The Wor Wonton soup is one of my favorite things to get here, its like wonton soup on crack with everything thrown in there. shrimps, pork, beef, you name it is in there.

  • *****

By far the best meatless chicken I've ever had, and I've had a lot of meatless chicken in my time. 2 entrees gets you free chow mein or fried rice, and free deliver...dream come true!

  • *****

Don't use their online ordering thing. One of the best parts about Wild Pepper is that you get a free chow mein with two entrees - if you order online this deal doesn't exist. A bit boo, and I wish I had known before I tried out the online system. I mean, I'm lazy and all, but I can still make a phone call. The staff at Wild Pepper are great about understanding the order and repeating back numbers.

The one problem we've had with Wild Pepper is that if my guy gets something EXTRA OH MY GOD SPICY than everything is made at that spice level.

They've got a really, really fast delivery time. Do not believe their 45 - 60 minute estimate. They are lying.

    I'm a fan.

NOTE FROM THE FUTURE: Wild Pepper had some weird internal split. There is now a Wild Pepper (this location) and a Crazy Pepper (outer mission.) This five star review is for the chef that went to Crazy Pepper in the split. Crazy Pepper is the same wonderful place, and even manages to handle my gluten-free nonsense very well. The split happened while I was out of town, and my friends have decided that Crazy Pepper is vastly superior to Wild Pepper, so I do not know how the new Wild Pepper is. Just keep in mind that any review over a year old is basically for a different restaurant since a bunch of the staff and the main chef have left to form Crazy Pepper.

  • *****

Consistently decent Chinese delivery. Not something I'd necessarily order for out-of-town guests or anything special, but good quantity and quality (not too greasy or MSGy).

The best part is that you get SO. MUCH. FOOD for like like $20 (order two entrees and you get free choice of Fried Rice or Chow Mein). We order it once and eat on it for a few nights (or two if we're feeling piggish!).

Also: very fast delivery. I think we got our order in 20 minutes once.

  • *****

I absolutely love this place. I am a vegetarian and it is extremely difficult for me to find genuinely good food that i can actually eat.. and like. Their meatless chicken is to die for. it is flavorful but not drenched in sauce. They have a wonderful variety to choose from such as sesame, lemon and even kung pow. DELICIOUS! since Ming and Wayne took over it is an absolute joy to eat there. They treat you like family and are really know how to run a restaurant! they give huge portions for a very cheap price! I live on the coast side (about 25 miles away) and dont think twice about making the journey because it not only is a pleasant dining experience but their food is amazing ESPECIALLY FOR VEGETARIANS!! they have everything you could want! Just plain fabulous!

  • *****

I'm a fan. Healthy chinese food? Yes please. Well...healthier, I'm sure. Color me surprised. Went here on a lunchtime rendezvous with a bald cutie pie I call mr. hani. We're star-crossed lunchers normally. He's the crunchy Mission dweller type. I'm a FiDi douchebag. However, on this particular Monday, I threw all caution to the wind and said, what the hey, let's ignore our geographical limitations and lunch it up.

So we met at Wild Pepper and ordered the potstickers, mango/papaya "meatless chicken" (I was intrigued, what can I say), and general tso's chicken. There was a little confusion with our waiter and he thought we were sharing the mango/papaya meatless chicken and potstickers, so we didnt get the general tso's chicken. Our server was very accommodating and offered to put in our order when he understood there was a miscommunication but we said, dont worry about it, because actually the potstickers and mango/papaya dish was perfect for the two of us (and keep in mind, my gentleman friend has a healthy appetite). To my surprise, the meatless chicken was great. I don't usually like tofu but the consistency was really good, as was the flavor (quality ingredients, you can tell). So for 12 bucks, we ate like champs, complete with soup and tea. I like. I like very much.

  • *****

Great hot & sour soup. Great inexpensive good quality food. Sesame chicken was to die for. Spent $29 between the two of us and I'm stuffed. Very friendly waitress as well...the poor thing says she works 70 hours a week.

  • *****

This place is great... Our favorite waiter from Big Lantern opened his own place with a colleague (Wayne) and we are thrilled. The food is amazing and the service is great. I love the lemon chicken or the orange beef. Try the avocado roll. We've ordered take out a number of times too. This is definitely our new go to place for Chinese food in the city.

  • *****

Although I was a bit hesitant - the name of the restaurant is so Americanized (!) - I decided to give it a try anyway. Worst case scenario, it's just another Americanized Chinese food.

Quick summary: MuShu pork was good and guess what, you can order dimsum for dinner! (my Chinese friend swore dimsum was only for breakfast) Oh, free fried rice (or white rice) with your order.

Shrimp dumpling: especially thick skin, but yummy. It's just really hard not to make this one right, but I loved that we could order a side of dimsum for a dinner take-out! Shrimp dumpling to start off the meal - yay.

Hot & Sour soup: it had all the right "stuff" - the black dried mushroom or whatever that is, tofu, bamboo shoots + almost the right soup consistency, but it lacked the sourness. I thought it was one of the better ones, but the feeling wasn't mutual.

Broccoli Beef: one word - interesting beef. Well, usually, it's thinner beef slices, but this beef was thick! I've just never seen beef like this in Broccoli Beef, but overall, it tasted fine, very saucy (just the way I like it since I like sauce with my rice) and crispy broccoli.

MuShu Pork: loved that they gave us the right wrapper for it. The other place gave us flour tortilla to wrap the MuShu pork and if you've ever had the real Chinese food, you know there ain't no tortilla in Chinese food! Anyway, it was good and I'd definitely order it again.

Chicken Fried Rice: it was free, so no complaints there. Nothing special - it was just like any other fried rice with chicken bits in it.

Portions were big - I think we have plenty of left overs for two more meals.

I would give it a 3.5 star, but since Yelp doesn't allow that, I guess it's more like a 4 star. We plan to try again to confirm its star rating.

So, why doesn't Yelp allow 1/2 star ratings? Lame.

  • *****

This may be my new regular take-out Chinese place.

My family used to go out to this one Chinese place in suburbia when I was a kid, and I have fond memories of those trips and I have not been able to find a place that even reminded me of that experience. But the food we ordered from Wild Pepper does remind me of those trips as a kid. I don't know if that means it is or isn't authentic Chinese food -- that doesn't matter. The food was available quickly, the portions were generous, the prices were reasonable, and the taste helped me recapture from my youth.

  • *****

W.P. has changed ownership but the new food is just as good.

This is still a great restaurant that's suitable for kids. Fewer nick-knacks to destroy now but they still offer high chairs and the bathroom has a dresser on which to change a diaper if needed.

W.P.'s old offer of a free chow mein noodle dish no longer applies when dining in so take this into account if you need the extra $7.00.

Sesame chicken and green beans with tofu (& rock salt) are better than ever and my kids love them. Brown rice worth the $1.00 more.

I can't say enough good thing about this place. I've eaten a lot of Chinese food and Wild Pepper stands out far above the others in a number of ways:

    1) Delicious and plentiful vegan / vegetarian options including an assortment of fake chicken dishes. General Tsao's seems to be the favorite among my friends (Yes, I know this is not "authentic" Chinese, but who cares?)

    2) A unique and creative menu. My experience with Chinese food is that recipes have been handed down for many generations and varying from these recipes is unthinkable. Thus, it was quite a delight to see some new dishes on the menu, which I've never had before, including sizzling rice soup, crispy vegetable balls, and avocado egg rolls. The chef is definitely creative! Oh, we also had a cold soba noodle salad with a peanut dressing that the chef was experimenting with when we were there. It wasn't much to my liking, but I had to give him credit for experimenting (we were given the dish free of charge since it was experimental)

    3) Great prices, especially given the portions

    4) Great atmosphere and very clean! The decorations are tasteful and a combination of modern mixed with classical decor. The tables for four are a little on the small side (especially when you're eating like pigs, like our group and they bring out more dishes than will fit on the table), but that's probably one of the only complaints I have.

    5) Parking in that neighborhood wasn't too difficult to find either time I've been.

I should also mention that they can accommodate large groups. I noticed when we were in there they had a table of maybe 20-30 people that just stretched lengthwise along the restaurant. It took up most of the restaurant but everyone fit in comfortably it seemed.

I will definitely be back for more!

While I love most Asian cuisine, normally I dislike Chinese, or, prefer t as a last option if there's something like Thai or Japanese to choose from instead. That being said, I discovered the Wild Pepper on accident one night while using GrubHub, and being too lazy to make a decision for food. Wild Pepper was a really nice little surprise.

I think their appetizer type items leave a little something to be desired (except the spare ribs - them things are bomb!), but the soups and more common dishes (mu-shu, general tso's, sesame chicken, etc.) are friggin' AMAZING!!!

Massive portions, nice quality, not overly greasy (as a lot of Chinese can tend to be), and relatively cheap considering how much grub you get. I can typically make a single meal last at least two days personally.

The only thing I can ay "steer clear" of, are the beef skewers...they're just coated in cumin, and are some of the most awful things I have ever ingested. Beyond that, everything is win.

There is no better Chinese take-out in the Mission/Noe area. Period. I love this place. The won ton soup alone is worth the order. it's chock full of meat and shrimp and it's cheap and awesome and just the thing when you're sick. The beef dishes and chow mein are my kids' favorites.

After 20+ years in the Mission, I moved over to North Beach/Chinatown a few years ago, and can you believe, I have yet to order home delivery that comes close to Wild Pepper?? I miss it.

Don't think I've even sat down there to eat, but I've ordered delivery at least 100 times of the years and I've never been disappointed. Food arrives hot and usually within 15-20 minutes. Friends coming over to eat take out dread it when I suggested Chinese, but when the Wild Pepper food arrived, they would all rave.

    I miss it.... I do.

It's closing in on the 10pm deadline to get food that isn't burritos on a monday night(so cooking is out of the question). Old faithful Wild Pepper saves the day once again.

Always two orders of the pork siu mai, because we can't share them. Monk's garden soup because bf likes the vegetable balls. Mu shu, because its really good here. Sometimes we get broccoli beef, or something along those lines.

The phone order system is sometimes a little frustrating, but once they have you in the system its usually not too bad. And you can't beat the convenience of delivery.

To recap: 3 stars for the food, 1 for being so convenient and reliable and saving me from exceeding my one burrito a week limit.

Their lunch menu is the best! It's really cheap and you get these hearty portions. I wouldn't say that the service is the best since they aren't the most welcoming restaurant employees. But honestly, I don't go to Chinese restaurants for the service. The restaurant has an expansive menu, which is really nice and gives you a lot of variety.

I'm a fan of the sweet and sour chicken and their eggplant.

  • *****

We love Wild Pepper, and here's why:

    1. It's a fantastic place for vegans/vegetarians (and omnivores alike). The have a large selection of delicious tofu and mock-meat dishes, as well as healthy veg (and non-veg) dishes. Their options are outstanding (try the General Tso meatless chicken and you'll understand). It's a place everyone can go to, no matter what their diet, and enjoy themselves.

    2. The prices are very reasonable: you get a ton of outstanding food for a great price. Leftovers, people!

    3. The restaurant is very relaxing and well-done.

    4. The delivery is super fast.

    5. The people are great: Ming is such a nice, generous guy, and very open-minded about diets and food choices, as are his colleagues.

Go to Wild Pepper. You won't be disappointed!

  • *****

I'm not a connoisseur of Chinese food, but this place was delicious. Drop by at lunch and you can get larger portions for pretty cheap.

I ate the wild pepper tofu. Tons of veggies, not too greasy, and huge portions for $6.50.

Definitely my go to for Chinese food in the Mission

  • *****

This place is my favorite San Francisco Chinese restaurant. The dine-in experience is better than the take out, but either way you will get fresh food with perfectly balanced spices and great sauces. Wild Pepper has the best won-ton soup I've ever had -- full of savory chicken, beef, and shrimp alongside a bounty of vegetables. I highly recommend it!

Today was the first time we dined at this restaurant! When we first got there, I wasn't too sure if we had to wait to be seated or if we sat ourselves. So after a few minutes, we decided to just sit ourselves at whatever table and they didn't seem to mind. I had the sesame chicken. with fried rice. Before ordering I asked the waiter if the sesame chicken was crispy and he said that it was fried. With most Chinese restaurants, I expected it to be really soggy. However, it came out really crispy and the taste was not overpowering, it was made JUST RIGHT! I ordered from the lunch special which comes with an entree from the list + soup+ rice, all for $7 and if you wanted to substitute fried rice it would be an additional $1. So for two orders it was only $15, not bad at all! Another thing was, the waiter forgot to add our sodas so we go ours for free, never a bad thing!! From the outside of the restaurant, it didn't look toooo appealing but that's why they say never judge a book by its cover!

Will definitely be coming back for more :)

GOOD FOOD, GREAT PRICES & A Clarification of SF Health Dept. Rankings

Just ordered delivery for the first time from Wild Pepper. I am usually a Big Lantern girl; but heard a lot about the food at WP being as good or better. I have to say this is true - the Hong Kong Noddles were better - and $1 cheaper! - and the Gen. Taos' Meatless Chicken was as good if not better ; the balls are of a different compostion - NonGMO Soy instead of wheat Satan - and I think they will reheat a lot
better. The sauce was tasty but a tiny bit on the sticky side - still a good dish though, with very generous portions and a much better
    container than BL's.

I have seen some other really intriguing things on their menu that seem unique and I will try next time.

The person who took my order was courteous and thorough - and they added garlic to my Noddles for no extra charge! (Big Lantern actually charges me an extra .50 cents to do that - ridiculous!) And the food came quickly even on a busy Friday night and was PIPING HOT!!

Now I want to say a word about SF Health Inspections rankings - which I check religiously before trying a place. It's true that in past years WP's ranking was not up to snuff - but the most recent one from this year 2011 is in the mid to upper 80's (86? I seem to remember)
which is respectable enough, and if you look at the specific violations they are all minor/low risk, and all 'abated' - which means it's been fixed. Nothing about 'unsafe/adulterated food' which is one to really take seriously.

And there is confusion for many people about how they write up vermin like mice or rats - a violation that says VERMIN as the first scary word used to turn me away from a place right away! Then I discovered there were different violations (with different wording and different Code Numbers) that they used that are very confusing and misleading to most of us. You can click on any violation and see a more detailed description of what it actually means.

SO: the first word being VERMIN does NOT mean they are present! It actually means there are not adequete traps or precautions to prevent vermin entry. The assigned risk factor is written up as LOW.

If vemin are in fact found to be present, it is written up as:
"Roaches/Flies/rodents/other animals" - and the risk factor will say HIGH.

So in the most recent Health Inspection findings, there are no vermin present at Wild Pepper, so I felt safe to try it out and was glad I did.

I say this place has very tasty food that does seem lighter and healthier - at great prices - and the veggies were WAY better than BL's...so give it a try.

The food is delicious. The problem? They don't speak English at a level high enough to communicate over the phone. If you're dining in, it's not as big of a problem, because you can point to what you want on the menu. If you're ordering for delivery, it's more of a problem...you'll need to make sure you establish:

    1. Your order is for DELIVERY.
    2. Your delivery address.
    3. Make sure you have them confirm what you mean to order.

We live in the neighborhood and eat Wild Pepper from time to time. To be honest, we are happy with the food every time we go in there--the food is DELICIOUS. But being just as honest, when it comes time to order for delivery, we argue about who has to make the phone call--it's tough to get an order in accurately. Even as a pick up order we have had problems here. We recommend this place as a dine in restaurant only.

  • *****

We came here a couple time on sunday for lunch.
We love the quiet atmosphere and neighborhood unlike other noisy chinese restaurants.
The food was delicious too and come in big portion, the mixed vegetable was fresh, cooked just right with a mild flavor of cooking wine. The chow mein were awesome too. Recommended to those who wants to eat some good chinese food in a peaceful atmosphere, without feeling rushed.
Not sure about weekday or dinner time.

  • *****

    Ok. Where do I start?

First off, this place is exactly what we were looking for. We're from New England, and to be honest, the chinese food here in the city differs in many ways. You don't find many American-Chinese places around in San Francisco. This place falls perfectly into that category.

Secondly, I've been looking for crab rangoon's FOREVER. To no avail. This place not only has them, but they're better than any other place I've had them before in my entire life. Without question.

We ordered two appetizers: crab rangoon's, and of course steamed BBQ pork rolls. DELICIOUS. The rangoon's were quite textured, with plenty of delicious ingredients in the center. The pork rolls were great too, steamed just right.

On to the entrees. We decided to get two entrees: Sesame Chicken, and General Tsao's Chicken. Soon we found out just how much food that meant. Very large portions, and they were great too! The Sesame Chicken was crunchy and sweet, while the General Tsao's was the perfect amount of sweet, and spicy. We could not ask for more.

The pricing. For San Francisco, simply fantastic:

    Crab Rangoon's (6): $3.95
Steamed Pork BBQ Rolls (3): $3.95
    Sesame Chicken: $7.95
    General Tsao's Chicken: $7.95

*This was enough food to feed a family of 4, at least!

Ok, now to address the service. Fantastic. The waiter didn't pressure us during our meal, knew exactly when to come out and refill our water's, was very courteous, SPOKE PERFECT ENGLISH, and all around was just a really nice guy! We tipped him 35% because we were so pleased.

The decor was great on the inside, it looks a bit confusing when you walk up to it on the street, but once your inside you're seated in a very nice environment. The ambience was great, and it wasn't packed at all (being from New England, the overly crowded restaurants here in the city can just be too much at times). Hard wood floors that looked spotless, and very nice table setups.

I'd recommend this place to anyone. I'm curious as to why anyone would give this place a bad review. As far as my own experience here, I'd give it a 6th star if I could. We both agreed, WE'VE FINALLY FOUND OUR GO-TO CHINESE RESTAURANT HERE IN THE CITY!!

  • *****

I'm really a fan of this place.

The food is good; the owner is really nice. I'm a big fan of the Mongolian Beef, and the Wild Pepper Beef. Also, the meatless chicken is amazing!

The best part is that this is an affordable Chinese option, that has great ambiance if you ever care to go for sit down. So unlike the majority of grimy affordable restaurants I find myself in.

  • *****

We've been looking for decent Chinese that delivers in Glen Park for a while now, with no success. Wild Pepper has been consistently good and not super expensive. Good flavors, not too greasy, huge selection, big portions, and easy online ordering. Everything we've ordered so far has been good!

  • *****

Wild Pepper is the best chinese food that delivers to Bernal.

Where Jasmine Tea house seems to be riding on their laurels of a better past, Wild Pepper seems to take pride in their food. Its very good for the price, good for veggies, and their online ordering is a breeze.

  • *****

I don't know if it's the noodles or the way they cook them, but both the chow mien and the chow fun are addictive. I have had the beef and combo chow fun and the pork and combo chow mien the noodles are always cooked right, the meat is tasty and the veggies are crisp and fresh. I also have only good things to say about the shredded pork and garlic sauce, the mongolian beef, the combo fried rice, and the sweet and sour pork. They loose a star because the salt and pepper pork chops should be called salt and pepper pork bones. Get it, no meat just bones. I REALLY like the noodles.

  • *****

Tried this restaurant about 2 years ago and was not impressed. I decided to return after reading some positive Yelp reviews and Wow! was I impressed. The menu has a lot of variety, and the online ordering was easy to maneuver. Everything we ordered was delicious and the prices were reasonable. Will definitely return

  • *****

Wow!!!!!!!!! Totally awesome Chinese food...Great fast delivery -- hot food every time, and let me tell you it's has been several deliveries. I happened upon this place a few months ago and have been addicted ever since. I also have visited the restaurant in person. Clean, great modern decor and great service. Spring the lady who works there is super friendly and very helpful. I have been several times with groups of friends and everyone seems to always agree GREAT food - but I am not Chinese...

  • *****

Being Born/Raised in the Mission - I'd have to say this is the best one for Chinese food. Very clean, non-greasy and they really keep the place clean. Just look at their bathroom and even that says alot. Food tastes fantastic and highly recommend the Sesame Chicken! Recommend for anyone in the mood for decent not-so greasy Chinese food in the MIssioni!!!! Oh yea its very affordable!

  • *****

I do love Wild Pepper. They have delicious wonton soup! The delivery service is awesome and if you go to their restaurnat, the service is great and your food is quickly delivered. I hae tried numerous items on the menu and have been pleased every time. Prices are fair and the quality of the food is pretty good. It's worth a try!

  • *****

My co-workers and I order delivery from this restaurant all the time! Even though we have never actually sat down in the restaurant, the food is amazing! I usually get the meatless chicken dishes but I have also tried their tofu also and I am never disappointed. The veggie fried rice is also very good.

The lunch specials are $6 something monday-saturday until 3 i believe and they come with rice and soup. Otherwise, the dishes are about $9 each.

My co-worker suggests their jalapeno fried rice. lol

  • *****

Fast delivery, amazing food, great prices, and great veggie-meat selection.

  • *****

You got to any sit-down Chinese restaurant and you pretty much get great food. What sets this place apart was that the restaurant was quite small, the decor was soothing, the place was clean, the food tasted great, AND it wasn't noisy as hell like those other Chinese places. I actually didn't have to yell to talk to my friends for a change.

We had the duck, kungpao chicken, roasted pork, chowmein, mixed vegetables, and all were very tasty at a reasonable price.

Looking forward to coming back here.

  • *****

I've been looking for decent Chinese food that delivers for a while. Three years in fact, since moving here from NY. Finally, a place I will be ordering from again! Yay! After reading the previous reviews, I figured there was a trend with the negatives - language skills being an issue when ordering on the phone. Yay for grubhub.
Vegetable spring rolls - nothing special, but solid
Shrimp dumplings - passable, stick with Yank Sing
BBQ spare ribs - finger licking good
Wor Wonton Soup - like no wonton soup I ever had back East, a meal onto itself - beef, chicken, shrimp, veggies and wonton - yum
Chinese broccoli w/beef - a little more beef would've been nice but lots of green goodness, took away a little of my guilt from the spare ribs
Prawns over baby bok choy - mild, lite, lots of green goodness, could've used a bit more flavor but overall, a nice balance to everything else
General tso's chicken - breaded, fatty, tasty, huge, huge portion
Vegetable chow mein - solid, great accompaniment to all
Leftovers for DAYS. Portions were huge.

    Will definitely be ordering again.

  • *****

Ordered take out from this place last week. Seafood sweet and sour soup was very good, as were the honey walnut prawns. Overall the food was good and flavorful. They didn't get our whole order correct but delivered the rest promptly. Definitely recommend for the price.

  • *****

By far the best lunch special in the mission. Soup, salad(my favorite) and whatever you order. Only if I lived closer I'd be there everyday

  • *****

This is my go-to Chinese takeout. The only complaint that I have it is that sometimes the food is not as good as other times... maybe two chefs? In any case we always get the same things: chow main, spring rolls or rangoons, egg drop soup, and some veggie entree. All of it is good and they are not to fast or two slow, just right.

  • *****

This review is for delivery only.

I've tried Wild Pepper here and there and I feel like they've definitely improved their food. Food is hot and fresh. My current favorite dish is the Wild Pepper Tofu - they use good stuff, flavoring is perfect, not too salty. My other favorite Chinese restaurant dish is salt and pepper pork and sadly, I do not like how they make theirs. Everything else, like General Tsao's chicken - delish. I also like their steamed vegetable - it's fresh, crunchy and nicely flavored.

Their delivery time is generally pretty fast. I've also never had any mistakes with my order. I like that you can place your order online (over the phone has been fine as well). This is a convenient and delish option for Chinese food.

  • *****

Garlic peasprouts and General Tso's fake chicken are absolutely delicious!

  • *****

I enjoyed a multi-dish all vegan meal here, with fresh veggies, inventive dishes, some hot and spicy just as I like them. A fried spring roll came with avocado inside, unusual for rolls that are fried. The veggie chicken dish had nice flavor and texture. Gracious service, nice interior and furnishings, super clean bathroom.

  • *****

We've ordered delivery from Wild Pepper for many years. It's good and reliable. You need to try things to find what you like. We like the eggplant-prawns-scallops, Szechuan chicken, salt & pepper fish, black pepper beef, Black Forest pork, and bok choy with mushrooms. Avoid deep-fried appetizers for delivery, but the pot stickers are fine and the hot-sour soup is good. If we haven't had Wild Pepper for a while, we start craving it.

  • *****

The veggie chicken entrees (with exception of the lemon chicken) are incredible! I'm a fan of the orange meatless chicken and the sweet and sour, but others have been just as enjoyable. Remember to ask for free chow mein or fried rice if you order 2 or more entrees. I've picked up and got deliver, but have not eaten at the restaurant itself.

  • *****

We patronize Wild Pepper quite a bit, at least once a month - the delivery service is great when there's a game on, and we don't want to go out. The in-restaurant service is just a good. They are particularly good at subbing things out in the food (due to allergies) and while there can be a bit of a wait at the restaurant since they have a small staff, with plenty of tea and good friends with us, we never mind waiting. I love the lemon chicken, and they'll even make the chow fun with gravy. We've never had any issues with delivery, mistakes in the food, or wrong prices, and it's our Chinese food restaurant of choice for delivery, hands down

  • *****

I used to get stuff from Wild Pepper because they were very near by and delivered quickly. It was always so-so, but they seem to be making quite an effort now. Lots of things about the place has changed, from decor to menu.

Now the food makes me nostalgic for the good old fashioned American chinese food of my youth. Just like how traditional Christmas dinner always was. In Jewish home.

Good singapore noodles. Good BBQ Pork. They make steamed vegetables under the old regime, but it's even better now. People like the fake chicken in general. Real chicken ok too.

    They deliver quickly. In general.

When you want a hankering for the Chinese food and here's good.

  • *****

I am serious. This is probably the best westernized Chinese food in the whole vicinity. Their "meatless" menu is pretty long too. The mere reason why I adore this cute restaurant - it is just around the corner, oh thank Buddha. It is comfortably tucked in between residential houses on 26th St....which could easily be mistaken as a neighborhood locksmith or a shady massage parlour, the inside decor is however feng-shui enough! Please order their Monk's Garden soup and any kinds of Chow Fun.... which is way more fun to eat than the little Mein cousin.

  • *****

Food served by happy and attentive people always makes for a great experience.

I found this place by accident and I am so glad that I did. Both times (1 dine in, 1 delivery) were great!

The general's chicken and the shrimp and scallop eggplant special were recommended (I am now hooked on this eggplant dish). House fried rice was FULL of meat and shrimp which made my husband super happy and he really enjoyed his sweet and sour pork too.

Huge portions and the take out was perfectly packaged with our entrees in plastic like boxes with lids. The delivery was also pretty fast and they called when they arrived like I had asked.

They also had great brown rice that was cooked perfectly. Yum!

  • *****

for delivery and damn that was good! so I haven't eating chicken in a decade or more... but the meatless sweet and sour chicken really takes me back! I love it!! ok, I can't stop ordering it... I know its not the healthiest thing, but please give a grad student a break! Prices here are pretty reasonable... delivery is timely and reliable, employees friendly, the brown rice is great, I was told the hot and sour soup was vegetarian.... the green beans with tofu, the garlic pea sprouts, and onion pancakes were also pretty good (3 stars). Entrees are Large portions, enough to share if your willing.

  • *****

Like another reviewer said this is straight up american chinese food like you wd imagine getting when you order it. Not cuisine-y like Mission Chinese but also a lot cheaper. It is very reasonably priced for delivery since it comes w noodles or fried rice if you order 2 entrees. The lunch specials are obviously a great deal too. Jasmine tea was my go to for many yrs. then it started going downhill so i discovered wild pepper is also good and a bit different and though they are similar and I like both I now slightly prefer the food at wild pepper though I like the atmosphere better at jasmine tea. Also jasmine tea has a new owner who is a former longtime employee so I look forward to trying it again I have heard its like it always used to be. At wild pepper i like the pork mushu and everything else is good too such as the eggplant dishes.

  • *****

Solid, good food with large portions. I kept it pretty standard with beef and broccoli, chicken chow mien, and pork potstickers with brown rice. Everything was tasty and fresh, plus our delivery was 15 min early, BONUS! I would defo order from here again.

  • *****

Great food at great prices.. Very nice and clean restaurant great service and a very good menu. Had the beef basil with rice. Was great. Will be back for more.

  • *****

Love this place! My favorite Chinese place, possibly ever. Their General Chicken is unmatched, chicken chow mein and pork fried rice never disappoint, and their pot stickers are different than most other places but amazing (I think they are fried or something?) Never too busy when I have been there, probably because it's kind of hidden between 2 busier streets, and they deliver all the way to my sisters apartment in Lower Pacific Heights from the Mission district. Love love love!

  • *****

I've ordered from Wild Pepper a few times through Grub Hub and I'm always happy. In fact, I don't really like Chinese but Wild Pepper has become one of my go to take out spots. Good solid American style Chinese food. General Chicken, Corn and chicken soup, Veggie Delight, and Fried sesame balls. The egg rolls are tasty and the pot stickers are some of the best I've had(being an SF native I have tried a bunch).

  • *****

Consistently good, they make it easy to order healthy, the garlic broccoli salad is great, and when you eat there its always very peaceful.

  • *****

This place is the BOMB! The freshest Chinese food I've ever tAsted. And the prices are very reasonable. The staff is very friendly also. The place is very very clean.

  • *****

for delivery, this is the best chinese place i've found thus far.

the fake chicken dishes excellent. i've tried about 3-4 of these and although it's the same batter-fried fake meat prepared differently, it's almost always yummy. note that i suspect the fake chicken batter is not gluten free

the fried chicken wings, beef chow fun and garlic pea sprouts are also *excellent*.

the xinjiang skewers (which appear on the seamless menu but are "beef on the sticks" on their webpage) are also super yummy - beef drenched in cumin and soy sauce.

fried rice, dimsum are passably good

servings are ginormous. $40 here is about 4-5 servings for me.

  • *****

The wild pepper is by far the best chinese food I've ever eaten. My daughter is having them cater her high end wedding. If the delicious and flavorful food was not the only draw it is the hospitality, friendliness, and personality of the owner Ming ;) they have amazing chinese chicken salad, crispy chicken, bokchoy and mushrooms, orange meatlesa chicken and so much more! Their food is quality, inexpensive, and tasty!! We come here once a week to sit, eat, and enjoy time with Ming:)

  • *****

My husband & I have been going to this place mostly for take-out. The food, service is excellent. Everything we have ordered is always fresh & tasty. Some of the items we have had: Roast duck (so moist, crispy skin), lemon chicken (more tart than sweet), crab rangoon, grilled lamb (nice & rare), stir fry tofu, fried calamari (very tender, nice coating), pot stickers, crispy noodles, chow fun, combo dim sum (great selection), chicken salad (lots of chicken), mu shu pork. The owner Ming is so welcoming & friendly. The staff also are that way. Awhile back we decided to eat there - What a surprise. The place is nicely decorated, very calm, low lighting, tablecloths. It was such a relaxing meal, evening. One of the best Chinese restaurants in SF. Also, very clean. Service is excellent. The food is inexpensive for what you get, great selection/variety of items, very fresh. Wild Pepper is a hidden gem, quite literally as it is located where San Jose Ave dead ends at 26th St. We are definitely repeat customers for both take-out & eat-in.

  • *****

This is my go-to now for Chinese delivery, especially on slightly dreary sf days. The food is hot and the vegetables ( I tend to eat vegetarian ) are fresh and cooked well. Love it -- definitely recommended!

  • *****

Fantastic restaurant, terrific Chinese food with great service. My very picky wife loves it and you will too. Many great vegetarian items with fake meats, tofu, and all the normal stuff you would imagine. Delicious.

  • *****

Joined our vegan friends for dinner and had a fantastic time. Prompt, attentive service. Food prepared super fast and came out at a steady (not too fast) pace.

We enjoyed a family style dinner, which was more than enough to eat among our party of seven.

    Must try:
-Dry Braised Meatless Chicken (SUPER yummy)
-Five Flavor Meatless Chicken (VERY tasty)

    Not so much:
-Wild Pepper Spicy Noodles (bland and boring)

Brown rice comes out until you can't eat anymore, which was great, considering we had a bunch of dishes among the table.

Although we didn't get to try any of their soup dishes, I glimpsed around the restaurant and saw many tables with a soup dish of some sort. Maybe everyone's on to something?

Who knew a vegan dinner would be as delicious as it was!

  • *****

Order was ready to go when I arrived for pick up. Food was excellent and fresh/hot. Can't go wrong with their duck! Will definitely order again. The negative is the parking situation, but that's all over the City!

  • *****

4th time ordering from here. This time I went in person for pick up. Solid Chinese take out. Good flavors and generous portions. Love it.

    --- Past--

Ordered through Amazon Prime Now app. The food was really good especially for it being delivered, delivery was about 10 minutes early, and the portions were very generous. We will visit the store one of these days to try everything fresh off the wok/fryer/stove.

  • *****

Wild pepper is the perfect place for solid dependable Chinese food on rainy nights or take out days. The crab Rangoons are made with imitation crab meat and are delicious!

Hot and Sour soup is a great portion for the price and is also a good choice.

Can't go wrong with Shrimp dumplings. Would Def come back.

  • *****

Ordered off postmates and got a beef chow fun. The portions were great and worth the price. There was a good amount of beef in it too! Only problem was that the noodles were super oily but overall it was delicious.

  • *****

I am From teochew, chef does too! Eat it last December! Was pretty great! Nice service! Can't wait to try it again! Goose is the best thing

  • *****

Great taste and generous portions. Top 5 fav Chinese deliveries in the city for sure

  • *****

After having a horrible first day in San Fran we found this little gem. We ordered orange chicken, white rice and egg rolls for delivery. It was delicious. The sauce was almost like an orange marmalade. It was so tasty and each piece of chicken was HUGE. Definitely recommend this restaurant. Dont eat in China Town (per locals) eat here (per me)

  • *****

They have Hong Kong crispy noodles! My favorite Chinese dish. We ordered it with veggies and tofu. Really crispy and delicious!! Will definitely order it again next time. Cozy, casual spot- perfect for a rainy evening meal.

  • *****

Ive been eating here for over ten years and they have been consistently great! The Mongolian Beef has been one of my favorites!

  • *****

I am a fan of this neighborhood restaurant. This is not high-end Chinese food; it is inexpensive yet slightly above average. As English is a second language for many in SF, some patience and understanding can only help you get what you want. Most delivered food takes some time and doesn't travel very well. Try phoning in and picking up your self.

I love their $8.95 Large (combination) Wor Wonton Soup. And, their $10.25 Kung Pao Chicken with its hoards of perfectly prepared veggies is mmm mmm good. I always ask for extra spicy and they are happy to accommodate me.

For $6.95 the Twice Cooked Pork lunch special comes with a little green salad and rice. I'd gladly pay more for a bit thicker or perhaps more pork, which would make this more fulfilling to me.

Wild Pepper is a very accommodating Chinese restaurant. They are more than willing to fulfill special requests to their dishes. What each of us thinks is Hot or Spicy is subjective, so I specifically ask for my orders to be extra spicy. Although their food score is a mere 72, the restaurant seems very well maintained to me. I am a fan!

I love their $8.95 Large Wor Wonton Soup. And, their $10.25 Kung Pao Chicken with its hoards of perfectly prepared veggies is mmm mmm good.

For $6.95 the Twice Cooked Pork lunch special comes with a little green salad and rice. I'd gladly pay more for a bit thicker or perhaps more pork.

For $7.95 the Prawns in Black Bean Sauce lunch special left me feeling a little incomplete.

They have so much to offer I will return again, and again.

This place is a wonderful hidden gem in the city! Always fresh on Served just right. The owner is sweet as pie and very generous of spirit. This is the type of business that makes SF special.

Ordered delivery through the yelp app - pretty good! Came in about 35 mins, and delivery itself was free! Good food, and pretty satisfied overall.

The Lemon Chicken is very starchy and dry.
House special chowmein , Salt & Pepper Pork Chop,
Combi Foo Young , Kung Pao Chicken , Hot & Spicy Egg Plant are good...
my order was delivered in an hour..typical on a dinner time

General tsao chicken is crispy, meaty and savory. It's like the four seasons of diabetic Americanized Chinese food

Got a postcard in the mail from Amazon Prime saying try our new restaurant delivery thingy and get a 10% discount. Good, it's been raining and I don't really feel like going outside just to find food, plus there haven't been any halfway decent/edible Chinese delivery places in the area for a long time now. I wanted most salt & pepper stuff. We got combo fried rice, combo Hong Kong chow mein (crispy noodles), salt & pepper fish, salt & pepper three delights, dry pan friend green beans and dry chicken wings. The food is not even mildly spicy and they don't let you choose what strength spicy you want (some places do), but it tastes good. Green beans were still crunchy and not overly cooked, wings were tasty, fish and 3 delights was good, fried rice was pretty good (high compliment for this town, I usually have to dig sauces and spices up at home to make other places' fried rice taste like "something"). However, the Hong Kong chow mein was not good. This is San Francisco and there's NO excuse for using western broccoli when you have stores that sell Asian veggies. Plus the whole thing just tasted like the cook didn't know what he/she was doing, tasteless. The noodles were so badly done, haven't figured out what went wrong with them, that we dumped the noodles and just tried to eat the topping; next time we'lll skip the chow mein (I make better chow mein and I don't know how). It was delivered within about 45 mins (good). Food isn't the best but it'll do and they do deliver. We will be ordering again when the craving hits. Just received Season 6 of Game of Thrones in DVD so we'll be binge watching that tonight and eating. Thanks!

BTW, the reason why delivery guys prefer cash is they can have their tip right up front instead of having to wait for the charge to go through and the restaurant to give them the cash later--and I've heard it isn't unusual for the restaurant to "forget" to pay the drivers their tips (not saying Wild Pepper does this though, just saying...). If you're ordering delivery, just cough up some cash--I know you young folks are a lazy bunch but, really, if it were you you'd appreciate the cash up front (like maybe set aside a few one dollar bills whenever you get them to use for tipping delivery people, not a hard concept to grasp).

Food was really good! Their menu is confusing cause apparently I got from the lunch menu and there is no lunch menu on sundays so idk. However the food itself was pretty good I'd definitely go back.

  • *****

I've been to Wild Pepper twice and simply loved it each time. Last time we had crispy beef, Shrimp Chow Mein, Chinese broccoli with tofu, I think the sweet and sour chicken, and the combo appetizer. Every dish was perfect. Just perfect. Exactly what each of us wanted. And it was Christmas eve, just before we went to a movie. We were all so perfectly delighted. Our servers were kind and speedy. The place is warm and comfy. Not fancy, just comfortable. If I lived closer I'd be here every single week. I love every part of this place.

  • *****

I love this place. Family owned. Clean, fresh, timely and reliable. It's a neighborhood gem. Support it such that we can continue to have nice things. This place is special.

A nice Chinese restaurant. very big portions.

  • *****

Ate here during my visit to San Francisco with my family and or friends. We found this place randomly on Yelp and let me tell you , WOW! Probably the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. I came back to LA missing the taste!

  • *****

The food was just absolutely amazing! There was nothing wrong with the food, it was just perfect. They had really great service. Stop by if you're looking for great food and great service!!

First Time Here & I will be coming back ! :) Ordered the Jalapeo Fried Rice and it definitely was the right amount of spicy. This was my favorite! I love spicy food so this definitely was satisfying. Next the Mountain City wings. Pretty spicy as well!! Lastly, the wor wonton soup. It tastes like your average wonton soup. Nothing over the top but still good. The prices are really low and the portions are big! What I loved about this place is that when it says spicy it really is spicy!

  • *****

Whenever I crave Chinese food this is the first place I would come to because their place is very clean. Food is worth the price. Service is good as well. I just love how they cook their food perfect and it is not too oily or anything. Presentation is good.

  • *****

I had the kung pao chicken and beef chow mein delivered tonight. BOMB AS F***!!!

The dishes may be greasy American-Chinese takeout, but the flavors are authentic to Chinese cuisine. I'm so excited to have finally found the best of both worlds at Wild Pepper. I'll be back for sure!

  • *****

I ordered for delivery of grubhub the food was really fresh I was pleased. I will definitely be eating there again

  • *****

Found this place on the DoorDash delivery site...so my review here is based on my experience with the food.

    Delicious!

My choices included veggie fried rice and Szechuan chicken. The fried rice was full of flavor and packed with veggies and not greasy at all. The chicken was super spicy but oh so good.

I'll definitely order from this place again and try some new things.

    Enjoy.

  • *****

First try and it was pretty good. I got the beef on a stick appetizer and cow on the snow mainly because I thought the name was funny. Turns out it was a good choice for me since its the same sauce that they use for a typical honey walnut shrimp dish and I LOVE that dish. So it worked for me. I haven't tried anything else yet but I'm definitely going to order from them again. Maybe today. :)

  • *****

It's great! But don't get their crispy things! They are not so great.

  • *****

Ordered through Amazon Prime Now app. The food was really good especially for it being delivered, delivery was about 10 minutes early, and the portions were very generous. We will visit the store one of these days to try everything fresh off the wok/fryer/stove.

  • *****

The staff are friendly, the food is neither too greasy nor salty, and there are plenty of vegetarian options including vegan chicken (a gluten and soy protein mix). Two of us shared an entree and apoetizer and that was perfect.

  • *****

I was exploring the Mission and was lucky enough to find this place. So delicious! The perfect ratio of meat, veggies, and rice in my to-go lunch special. The service was very friendly too! I will definitely be back.

  • *****

Still awesome! Came in to order to go, ordered all veggie stuff and the person asked if I wanted everything vegan without batting an eye. Perfect, cause that is what I want!

  • *****

Amazing food ! My husband and I ordered delivery , it came 30 mins later but boy ! It was so worth the wait. I'm definitely going to order from here again.

  • *****

It always bugs the hell out of me when the employees are trying to rush people because they want to go home early. WHERE ARE THE MANAGERS AND OWNERS?!? The ambience seems way better than most, but this is a take-out place for me. The prices are a bargain, the food is solid and they knoock it out fast.

  • *****

The best Chinese food and great prices. My brother-in-law doesn't like Chinese food and highly recommended this restaurant. Careful ordering because the servings are large.

  • *****

I have been back to Wild Pepper for lunch on four or five occasions since our first visit. We really like this place. It's unhurried, but yet attentive, the food is always delicious and the service is circumspect, the way I like it to be. (Yes, they will come back to freshen your water glass, but they won't bug you.) It is one of the quietest restaurants you can hope to find. Bring your loved one or your friends, you won't be disappointed. This is not your "elite" Chinese restaurant, but yummy, plentiful, and always served with a green salad. I though this was very odd, at first, but i kind of like it. I get my fresh greens!

  • *****

I'm so pleasantly surprised to find this little gem, an authentic and reasonably priced Chinese restaurant in he mission! Only had the Peking duck so far, but it reminds me Beijing so much! Will definitely go back!

  • *****

The wild pepper chicken is pretty delicious. Moderately spicy with zucchini, peppers and mushrooms. Definitely recommend. Pick-up is always ready when I show up 15min after calling.

  • *****

Absolutely love this place! Would give it 6 stars if I could. Everything we've tried on the menu is delicious (recommend the walnut prawns and beef chow fun) and the service is always friendly and prompt. Usually I call in for pick-up, but have had great experiences when I've dined in.

The lady at the front desk cleared an extra table for us even though there were two large parties in the restaurant and even remembered our exact order from our last visit two weeks prior.

  • *****

Really fresh tasting Chinese foods. Service is can be creepy, but its a nice little peaceful place. The asparagus and salmon is my favorite.

  • *****

Something about inexpensive chinese food that's so close to home amazes me. The owner is very kind and we always get soup with the meal whether or not we dine in or eat take out or delivery.

Braised chicken wings are so delicious. Saucy and crunch and just the right amount of spice (that you can choose)

Fried rice is nice and flavorful with soy sauce as I love it.

General Tsao's meatless chicken is unexpectedly amazing! The reviews are so on point here. I don't know how it isn't real chicken but it tastes so good. Great for those that don't want to chew very hard on tough meat. It's very soft and flavorful.

Egg drop soup is one of my favorites and I've gotten it served to me probably 4 out of the 7 times I've been there now.

    Great location in the Mission.

  • *****

Fast delivery, order was spot on, food was delish. They even understood that a person in the house has a shellfish allergy and were careful (sometimes a challenge with ordering Chinese food). We enjoyed General Tsao's Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Pork Pot Stickers, Fried Wontons, extra hot mustard, Garlic Spinach and Green Beans with Tofu. Would order again!

  • *****

    Amazing Place!
    - Amazing food!
    - Lots of veggie and Vegan options!
    - crazy fast service!
    - reasonable prices
    - they serve free tea

Only thing that keeps it from 5 stars is the language barrier. Sometimes they struggle to understand you which leads to wrong orders :(

    Overall highly recommend!

    What a find!!

Ordered delivery for a company luncheon and was a bit worried because this was my first time ordering from Wild Pepper. Thankfully, it was a hit. Everyone loved the food.

    Delivery was prompt
    Food was DELICIOUS
Pricing was fine. Same as any other option.

Ordered brown fried.rice for the first time too and it was soooooo good.

I will definitely be a regular!

  • *****

Our go-to Chinese Delivery place around the Mission! My not-so-infrequent Chinese food cravings are always SO effectively satisfied by the General Tsao Chicken. I have been fairly lucky with the delivery thus far. In fact, there have been times I've called 5 minutes before closing time and still got prompt service.

P.S: Typing this review while waiting for the order!

  • *****

food was yummy, btw was take out so no comment on service or atmosphere but they looked friendly and clean, will probably eat in at some point.

walnut prawns and eggplant dishes were amazing. Soup could be better.

Online order took over 30 min, waited at the front for a while. I suggest call it in, don't use the online option.

  • *****

I have been ordering from here and they have Good food. Reasonable prices. Basically i haven't got sick. That's a good thing with restaurants lately.

  • *****

Have lived within a few blocks of this place since it opened. I can say that it is reliable, delivery is usually very prompt, and they have a killer sizzling rice soup. The potstickers are a little disappointing, but all of your standard go-to American-style Chinese food choices are here and reliably good. I love the "health food" section where you can essentially build-your-own chinese food by starting with steamed veg and choosing protein and a sauce. I have pretty much never had a really disappointing meal from here. I do miss the weird and wonderful cold shredded potato salad thing they used to offer. It's also a decent choice when you have a vegan in your party. Also: portions are very generous. It's a good value.

  • *****

I stopped by Wild Pepper as we searched the mission for Chinese food. To be honest, looking at the reviews I thought this place will be bad. It isn't!
The food was really good, the service was good and the location is as well.

Nothing too exceptional but I like their Kung Pao chicken and fried rice. Their dumplings were average, but the meat and vegetarian meals are the way to go.

  • *****

Su mai was a bit strange for my budds, I'de skip it, , walnut prawns and eggplant dishes were amazing. Soup could be better.

I'm really happy with the food I got from here! It's some of the best vegetarian Chinese food I've had in the bay, for sure. The vegetarian options at most Chinese restaurants feel like an afterthought, but it's clear they put some effort into it here. The veggie potstickers were yummy, and the steamed veggie entrees are light and healthy! This is my new go-to place for Chinese takeout.

  • *****

Excellent food paired with reasonable price. Went there once or twice for the past few months. We left the place with happy stomach every time.

This is an update based on using their preferred ordering site. The food is delicious, and when ordered through eat24hours.com came on time and without extra charges. DO NOT order through wildpepperchinese.com or you will pay a delivery charge and it may take hours to arrive!

  • *****

I've been ordering from Wild Pepper for six-seven years. Only once in all those years has the delivery taken longer than the promised time...remarkable considering all that can delay food deliveries in this town. Most deliveries actually came much quicker than promised. (21st & Noe) And the food is always very tasty. Never had a bad dish. Never had a sullen or unfriendly delivery person, even if he did have long hair parted in the middle. Good people. Good food. Good service. Consistent for over six years.

One the Best china Food The best thing going for this restaurant: The owner Ming Louie.
Delivery the shrimp with vegetables and they were not greedy with the shrimp. It had a good flavor!

Again ordered Wild Pepper on a whim and was very impressed!!! They're my GrubHub favorite!! Today tried braised chicken wings and they are about the crispiest and crunchiest that I've ever tasted at a Chinese restaurant. The crunch is so long lasting and the sauce is well-balanced. Today I also enjoyed the West Lake beef soup and was very impressed by the amount of beef and variety of veggies. They do a great job of delivery WAY under the estimated time (today it was like 20 minutes sooner than theirs estimate). Seems like this place really understands what people are looking for in a delivery service. Prices are moderately high, but worth it when you consider the consistency in quality and reliability. Next time I'll have to check them out on a Friday or Saturday night. . . .

  • *****

Fantastic chinese food!  I got the chicken with mango, peppers, pineapple and it was amazing.

  • *****

First time trying Wild Pepper due its high ratings on GrubHub.  I must say I was very impressed with the quality of everything I ordered.  Got beef and jalapeño fried rice, the vegetarian soup, a lamb dish and a chicken dish. Everything was delicious!  The order arrived earlier than estimated (on a Sunday night), and it was piping hot!! I will definitely be back!

  • *****

Hands down, best Chinese food in town! Pretty fast delivery and most important, they know the meaning of "vegan".

  • *****

I was very impressed with this place; nice decor, quiet -- you can actually carry on a conversation without raising your voice --and good food at very reasonable prices. We stumbled on this place after we went to Eric's for lunch, but they weren't serving lunch specials because it was a holiday. Searched on Yelp for an alternate Chinese restaurant nearby and came here. It was a Saturday and the 4th of July, but they had lunch specials at better prices than Eric's. Service was attentive, while Eric's is merely perfunctory. The three of us had different entrees and they were all good. They have an extensive menu, and we had such a positive experience we will be coming back again for dinner to sample more of their dishes. (Note:  Four stars is always my highest rating. I reserve 5 stars for the best of the best and upscale restaurants.)

  • *****

Really good! We ordered for Delivery the shrimp with vegetables and they were not greedy with the shrimp. It had a good flavor!

This place is epic! The food tastes fresh, the restaurant is clean, prices are reasonable and most importantly the food is finger licking good!!!!!!
My cousin brought me here and right away we were greeted by owner. The owner was very nice and was ready to cater to our needs. He spoke with us, made some recommendations and had some good laughs.
The food is amazing...Szechuan beef!!! General Tsao chicken or tofu....amazing....volcano prawns...for those who love sweet and spicy!!!
I need to try the dry braised chicken wings, honey walnut prawns and everything else.
Also the menu is interesting, the menu explains all the styles of which the food is cooked, very helpful. I've only been three times to eat at this location, but I plan to attend more with my wife and twins!!!

LOOK PEOPLE, IT GOES DOWN LIKE THIS HERE, SO PAY ATTENTION....! Take the 5 star reviews about this place, and roll with that, period! I've been coming here for 3 to 4 years now, and never had a regret with the food, the service, or parking (well maybe I'm stretching that a bit), but you are picking up, what I'm putting down, RIGHT....! Thank me later, and as always, stay HUNGRY & THIRSTY my friends.... Hand's down the cleanest Chinese----- Asian-----or whatever you want to stereotype------ RESTAURANT YOU'VE EVER BEEN IN, including Danko's, MINA, CHYAYA, and the like, if you know what I mean... MANGO BEEF ROCK'S, gotta ask for it special, WALNUT PRAWNS are FAVORITE, and no regret's with any other dish I failed to mention.......

  • *****

This is one of the best restaurants in San Francisco. My rating is going to be based on four categories. Food, service, atmosphere and price.

The ingredients here taste like they were picked from a garden in the back of the restaurant. Everything is fresh as can be and the mix of flavors are some of the tastiest I've ever experienced. I like eating plant based food and Wild Pepper has textured, flavored, soy that they call meatless chicken. It is FANTASTIC!!! My favorite dishes are Wild Pepper meatless chicken, tomato beef chow fun, vegetable wonton soup, avocado spring rolls, onion pancakes (their peanut sauce is thicker and tastes much better than creamy peanut sauce), and green tea ice cream for dessert. Try the General Tsao, Broccoli beef, Kung Pao and Vegetarian Delight entrées as well.

I always tip 25% here because the service is constantly superb. Ming, the creator and owner, puts his heart and soul into this business. It's easy to tell his culinary experience by the quality and diversity of Chinese cuisine he serves plus his management experience is evident in how well the restaurant operations are run. The staff is extremely friendly and kind, always helping before I ask for assistance and listening to everything I and my friends ask for. John and Alice specifically do an exceptional job keeping me happy and expressing interest in friendship with me, which makes me very happy. The chefs always do an exceptional job listening to even the smallest of details to ensure customer satisfaction which always makes people happy knowing they are being taken great care of.

The ambiance here just perfectly brings me into Chinese culture, even though I'm in the Mission district of San Francisco. They have soft cultural music playing, historic decorations on the walls and on the floors and an exceptionally clean venue. They incorporate plants into their ambiance as well which I love because it brings a more natural feel.

The appetizers are priced around $5 and the entrées around $10 which are extremely reasonable because the portions are HUGE!! I am a big man who eats a lot of food and I can barely finish one $10 entrée which turns into a second meal later in the day or the next day, so I end up paying $10 for two delicious meals which I love doing!! In terms of San Francisco prices, this is an absolute jem because normally I would be expecting to pay closer to $15-$20 for the same entrées.

All in all, I hope my review has better helped you understand why Wild Pepper is a must dine in San Francisco. The combination of high quality food, phenomenal service and ambiance as well as great price is difficult to find in San Francisco and Wild Pepper does them all and more. Thank you for reading and I hope to hear about your experience at Wild Pepper soon! :)

Love this place for delivery! Everything is always fresh, hot and delicious.

Sad that they're charging a delivery fee now, even with orders way above the minimum. Nevertheless its still worth it.

My first time ordering take out in the city and this place was fantastic! The delivery was slow but the food is well worth it.

  • *****

I love this little hidden gem of a restaurant. The food is always really fresh and reliable. I have ordered takeout from here, and I am pretty convinced they have a time portal, because the food always arrives extremely fresh, faster than expected, and the order is complete. The owner is really very nice and always makes me feel welcome. I highly recommend the black pepper beef on sizzling platter, even if it is to go, because it is superb. Their menu may not be the most inventive, but for reliably great food, with no wait, and clean fresh ingredients, this is the place to go.

  • *****

    Food was fantastic.

    Ordered:
Wild Pepper Chicken - Peppery and flavorful. Tons of vegetables which may not be for everyone, but good balance for me.

Chicken Chow Mein - A bit dry, but very good and huge portion.

Combo Fried Rice - I asked for this spicy, and they actually did make it spicy! It was delicious.

Black Mushroom and Bok Choy - I LOVE mushrooms, and my wife and I really enjoyed this. Very saucey so especially good with rice.

Overall - definitely worth the order, and will def be a go to for Chinese in the Mission.

Place is bomb.  My baby brother lives out in the Mission while hes in med school and eats here 3 times a week.  Came here with him, mom, and grandma to see what the hype was all about.

Parking: was pretty awful on a Saturday night, had to park 6 blocks away after we dropped the ladies off first.

Service: was great. The girl server was cute and pleasant. My mom and grandma both speak Cantonese so I have no idea what was happening all of them were laughing and talking for a decent amount of time. I wish I was bilingual, damn you suburbs.

Ambiance: Had a really cool general's costume on the wall next to your table. Nothing crazy and a kinda small restaurant. There were about 12 tables and 6 were taken.

    Bathroom: That. Sink. Tho.

Food: Got general tsos and honey walnut prawn. Both were very crispy and juicy with the perfect amount of batter and sauce.

My grandma owned a restaurant in Chinatown in the 50s and 60s and we had a pretty funny conversation during dinner:
-Grandma: *bites into chicken* Man this is good chicken, what's the name of it again?
    --Me: General Tso
-G: Who's that? We never served this in my time.
--Me: I dunno, maybe a famous guy or some Americans just made it up
-G: Hmm, oh well it's still good

    Chinese grandma approved

Wild Pepper we learned about by chance, in conversation with a foodie at La Taqueria. He raved about Wild Pepper and happened to have its card. Three days later we went. A tomato egg flower soup instense with basil. Salt and Pepper pork chops, messy to pick at but awsone. Spicy Vegetables and seafood...General Tsao's chicken, such basics as chow mein... I've only been four times but everything so far has been spectacular. The menu is long and inventive... how do they do it? The owner is gracious and makes good recommendatoms. The restaurant is pleasant and clean, up from the basic. I'd recommend it to anyone, especially with a sense of adventure and desire to explore.

Vegetable Chow Mein solid too (how can you mess this up?).

Delivery was on time, reasonable price for food and it was stlil warm.  No complaints except for the Broccoli with Garlic Sauce Salad...not very good!

The food was good but it was too greasy and the Mongolian beef was full of fat and not actual solid beef. I luv their fried rice though. Also, it would be nice if they would let you choose the size of the food you want when you order for home delivery.

On a rainy day like this and when you are a little hungover after that Christmas party, you crave for something that hits the spot. This place had three and a half star rating so I wasn't so sure but with the rain I just wanted my Chinese. So we go in and they bring out the menu. The prices were at $6 range and I thought these were just starters but they told me these were their lunch menus! I never saw this kind of price in SF. We ordered spicy basil eggplant with chicken and shrimp & string beans in dry chilli garlic with beef. They served soup first. Two of us got different soup - spicy sour soup and an egg soup. It was comforting (did I mention about the hangover?) Then dishes came out. Wow their portions were huge! Seriously. My favourite was the string beans with beef. It was cooked piping hot and ingredients were fresh. They also served a little fresh salad on the side which I believe not so necessary but then again why not?!

You get a filling lunch that tastes good without the frills at $6.25, that definitely deserves a 5 star rating. Life isn't always about eating at Hakkasan especially when it comes to Chinese cuisine. What we need is the comforting Chinese flavours cooked into the fresh ingredients and a bit of grease and you wash it down with some hot tea!

    Highly recommended!

Came here with a large party on Friday night. Food was delicious!! We got combo fried rice, wonton soup, hot and sour soup, salt and pepper fish, honey walnut prawns, hong kong style noodles, crab Rangoon's, orange chicken, mangolian beef, and...a whole roasted duck..(I think there was more but I can't remember..)

I didn't give them five stars because their service wasn't good. They probably do better with smaller parties but as far as attentiveness goes and especially with a large party during a special occasion, and a hefty bill, they should know better than to lag on drink refills, and be prompt with alcohol service.

Great experience! I ordered on seamless that had an estimated delivery time of 75-90 minutes. They ended up delivering the food in 20 minutes!!! After reading the earlier reviews, I was expecting the food to be delivered in two hours or later..so I was pleasantly surprised!! If you are planning on getting delivery, seamless worked out pretty well for me. It seems like the bad delivery stories for Wild Pepper are related to a specific 3rd party delivery service. My delivery guy brought utensils, napkins, sauces, and fortune cookies too. :)

I ordered the general tso chicken, fried rice, and eggplant with shrimp and scallop. Everything was yummy! The medium spicy wasn't spicy enough for me, I'm going to have to get the max spicy next time.

Me and my girlfriend's FAVE Chinese food spot!

We're vegan and love how accommodating this restaurant is to us. We come so much the staff knows us and they are always super friendly. The food is delicious and we've brought tons of friends and family here and they all love it.

We always get General Tsao's Meatless Chicken. That is our ultimate favorite.  A little spicy, a little sweet, perfectly delicious every time. It's a Must Get! Even the meat eaters love it.

For veggies, we get the Dry Sauteed String Beans (yum!), the Hunan Eggplant is pretty good and if you feel like curry, the Indian Monk is a yellow curry with veggies and Chinese mushrooms.

But, everything is yummy and consistent. We've also had Kung Pao Meatless Chicken, Dry Braised Meatless Chicken, Salt and Pepper Meatless Chicken, Five Flavor Meatless Chicken (similar to General Tsao's but get General Tsaos!), Veggie Chow Fun, Jalapeño Fried Rice (no egg) and prob tons more I cant remember.

If you're feeling meatless chicken is too heavy, they have a section called Health Food Section where its your choice of different steamed veggies, your choice of a protein and you can pick your sauce.

This place is a solid place for casual, low-key, tasty, and inexpensive Chinese food.

We enjoyed the mixed vegetables with chicken, chili fish, and chicken chow mein.  The crab egg flower soup, however, was bland and disappointing,

The service was polite and efficient.

We went on a Saturday night, and the place was mostly empty (I expect take out / delivery account for most of their business).  The decor was nice.

Overall, a good find.  Not out of this world, but definitely hits the spot when you're craving good, old fashioned (American) Chinese food!

This intimate little restaurant sits between the Mission and Noe Valley, on 26th Street at San Jose Avenue.  Our meals were exquisitely prepared, with fresh hot peppers diced ever so fine. Our hot and sour soup was tangy.  The Mongolian Beef dish had a good smoky flavor and we could cut the meat with just a fork.  Our white fish was cooked in a light, delicate batter with just a hint of salt and pepper.  The menu is extensive, includes vegan dishes, and portions were generous.  Take-out and delivery are available.  I hope to try the chicken on my next visit to this little gem of a restaurant.  It was a wonderful dining experience.

Wow!  Hands down that this is the best Chinese restaurant in the Mission.  I had the spicy eggplant and chicken and I must say it's probably the best eggplant dish in the City.  Nicely located between Guerrero and Valencia on 26th St. and not congested like other parts of the Mission.  It was my first time eating here and the waitress, Alice recommended the eggplant dish and simply put, it was fantastic!  This is truly a little gem.  I will be back soon to try their other dishes.  As I was leaving, I was fortunate enough to meet the owner, Ming....extremely friendly and I must say he takes pride in his cooking.

Thanks Ming!  I will be back soon.

The orange chicken and the wor wonton soup are the real winners for me. The lunch specials have a ton of food for the perfect price.

It's my go-to lunch spot for when I want Chinese food.
My only complaint is it often takes over an hour after ordering to actually receive your food if you get delivery. Keep this in mind, order early and you're golden.

  • *****

The food was good but it was too greasy and the Mongolian beef was full of fat and not actual solid beef.

One of my favorite Chinese Restaurant in San Francisco. I am a vegan girl and my favorite dish is the dry sauteed string bean. I would definitely bring out of town friends to check out Wild Pepper, I bet they would love you.

The General Tsao's Meatless Chicken is delicious! I wish it had a little bit more sauce, but that's just because I loved the sauce. I thought the onion pancakes would be like scallion pancakes I've ordered at other places, but they were more like a Chinese quesadilla with onion in it instead of cheese. They came with a peanut paste-like sauce. Not a huge fan but they weren't bad! Also ordered the Monk's Garden Soup -- it's a huge portion and decent because of the fried veggie balls that come with it (separately, you put them in the container), but the broth is pretty bland. My main issue with the menu is the online menu doesn't tell you anything other than the name of the dish so I don't know if things are fried, come with any vegetables, etc. Other dishes I've tried here: 5 stars: Dry sauteed string beans -- Tastefully flavored, not greasy. A great addition to a main course. 4.5 stars: Szechuan Buddha -- I love that this comes with a lot of vegetables, not just one. Full of zucchini, broccoli, tofu, mushrooms, water chestnuts, black beans, chilis. Good flavors! 3 stars: Asparagus with black bean sauce -- solid but not amazingly seasoned. Not really a main dish but a good accompaniment. 3 stars: Garlic meatless chicken -- pretty good, maybe a bit greasy. This one is sauteed, not fried. • • • The General Tsao's Meatless Chicken is delicious! I wish it had a little bit more sauce, but that's just because I loved the sauce. I had relatively low expectations - and they were wildly exceeded! Delivery was fast, food was hot and delicious, price was great - overall A+ I was especially impressed that the Salt and Pepper Fish, which is deep fried, showed up hot and crunchy - it is hard to deliver deep fried food well, and Wild Pepper totally nailed it. I will certainly order again, and again!

Quick Delivery chinese food, they usually have a special of order two entrees and get a free Chow Mein. Good Hot and Sour Soup, Moo Shoo Pork, Spice level can be customized but beware the medium can be pretty hot on the Wild Pepper Chicken!

Family was very pleased with order from Wild Pepper. We ordered... beef broccoli, orange chicken (wasnt to vinegary and made with real oranges), sweet & sour pork (not vinegary), bbq pork (yummy and very juicy), beef egg foo young (my honey and I are super picky when it comes to egg foo young and this place hit the spot. There was enough meat and not too many onions :) Sauce was very good.), pork fried rice and pork chow mein was not greasy like a lot of places. I will be ordering from here in the future. • • • Family was very pleased with order from Wild Pepper. The new wild pepper offers affordable lunch menu $7-$8 (hours restriction) and you get a dish with rice, salad and soup. My favorite from the lunch menu and you should try is the Basil eggplant with chicken and prawns. This flavorful dish will just keep you coming back. Service is always good since the owner is almost always there =) I hope they bring back the old wild pepper prices $4 for lunch special but thats years ago and since the google buses come in this area everything just went up in prices. BUT thats another story =) • • • The new wild pepper offers affordable lunch menu $7-$8 (hours restriction) and you get a dish with rice, salad and soup. Cheap, fast, tasty.

Waiters are generally nice, although they can be aloof/awkward.

Lunch specials are awesome - main dish, rice and soup. Dinner portions are (usually) quite large.

They have so many online delivery options - it is confusing and inconsistent. Lots of the poor reviews here on Yelp have been about the spotty online fulfillment, but that's irrelevant. Poor online experiences are delivery.com and eat24's problem, not this restaurant's.

We have been going to Wild Pepper since Ming opened it in 2010 and love it every time we go there (at least twice per month). The food is tasty, made with fresh ingredients and consistent from one order to the next.  I love the new design of the menu that Ming rolled out this year with the great descriptions of the dishes and beautiful design. As for choices, the menu is extensive and has something for everyone...including lots of vegetarian dishes. If you don't see what you want on the menu, chances are that they will make it for you. Ming and his staff are always very friendly and make certain that you you feel at home in his dining room. If you have not tried Wild Pepper yet, make it a point to get there soon and check it out!

Don't order the twice cooked pork. Not unless you want a to go container filled with nothing but cabbage.

I understand the point of Chinese food is to make a little bit of meat look like a lot of food, but this was just ridiculous.

I'm getting one bite with meat for every 6 bites I take.

Edit.  Sry man. My meal did suck, but we all have our off days. I'm trying to delete this review.

This place is absolutely fantastic, and it makes me so happy that they are right down the street from my home. I can honestly say this is the best chinese food I ever had, the restaurant looks so nice and clean, it looks welcoming and the food is delicious! each plate looks so presentable, the veggies are so crisp and fresh and the flavors are great. I ordered the broccoli beef platter and the volcano prawns and maybe after 5 mintues of ordering the food they were already serving me and my family our orders. Their jasmine tea is delicious and cleansing after eating and drinking some tea i felt good and not so over fed..I am still searching for the same tea because it is that good. The customer service is great, the servers are so attentive and nice. I recommend this place and i refuse to go anywhere else for chinese food. Oh and the food is a little pricey but the quality and quantity is worth every dime. Two thumbs up!!

Pretty much the best Chinese food in the Mission.

Hello Ming, what kind of oil do you use for cooking? Knowing helps me figure out how much saturated/mono/polyunsaturated fats I'm eating.

In the 6 months our company has been ordering food, from this restaurant, it has never been late.  Usual orders consist of BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Chow Mein, and other typical Chinese cuisine, but, the vegetarian and meatless food is also GREAT!  Considering our orders are large they always get it right. They are able to accommodate any special requests and don't mind last minute delivery time changes.  I would recommend Wild Pepper to anyone.  A big contributing factor is the customer service provided by Ming!  We will definitely continue to order from this place!

  • *****

When considering the price, the quality was higher than my expectations- delivery is a huge bonus factor... Best delivery that I've found Soma when I want the solid classics; chow mien, fried rice, general/lemon/sweet/kung chicken egg roll pot stickers etc -- has been coming  through lately

We ordered takeaway from here last night and it was really good. We had the curry beef, chicken double mushroom (although not sure why it's called that because it had hardly any mushrooms in it but it still tasted good), vegetable fried rice and some spring rolls. The food tasted really fresh and you could tell it didn't contain MSG. It only came to $21 too so really good value for money.

Only comment to make is don't order through the 24 eat site it offers because it's slow and keeps crashing. We called our order in, in the end.

I have been ordering from WIld Pepper for a long time, and I have always loved it! I am a huge fan of the hot and sour soup, and just about all of the meatless chicken dishes. The meatless chicken is the reason this place has been a long-time, go-to delivery option for me. I wish more restaurants provided meatless options like WP.

  • *****

Just a quick update to say that I've noticed there is less garlic on their dishes now, which is a huge improvement. I have also been really enjoying their wonton soup the last few times I've ordered- they give you a ton of wontons, unlike most places.

Pretty darned good for the most part.

    What we liked about it:
    - We ordered five dishes, and most were quite good.
    - Delivery time was phenomenal -- came way before they said it would, and it was hot!
    - They deliver at lunchtime!
    - All the veggies were super-crunchy and bright in color. Added nice texture and tasted fresh -- not like those sad limp veggies they serve at some places.
    - Portions were ample.
    - Good value -- prices are reasonable.
    - Food not as oily as most other Chinese restaurants.

    What we didn't like:
The combo appetizer plate, which included the following --
    - Egg rolls were OK
    - The potstickers had very thick, deep-fried skins that were really heavy and greasy; filling was mushy. We didn't eat them, and till now, we had never met a potsticker we didn't like.
    - Chicken wings didn't look appetising to me, but my husband ate them.
    - Was supposed to include crab rangoon, but it was MIA. What we did get was two unidentifiable, star-shaped, deep-fried thingies with some kind of mushy filling in the center. After looking at the photos posted by other yelpers, I now know that it's some kind of cream cheese appetizer. We didn't eat these either.

Next time we'll know to avoid the combo appetizer and order more veggie dishes for their brightness and crispiness.

Wild Pepper aka GOD'S ANSWER TO CHINESE TAKEOUT

If you gave this place a rating of anything less than 5 stars I suggest you see a doctor for your malfunctioning taste buds.  I've ordered from this place via Seamless countless times and have nearly fallen to my death all those times scurrying down the stairs to get the damn order.

Their Avocado Egg Rolls, damn........at first thought I had some nerve to smack a fool who would put avocados in egg rolls, cuz that shit just did not fly in my book.  But adventure lead to gold cuz those things are FUCKING MAGICAL.  The creamy texture of the avocado with the crispy rice paper just melded the lightly salted vegetables into a medley of FUCK YEA.  Order their Chow Mein with egg noodles and you'll be smacking your lips at the flavor so hard you'll put Blistex outta business.  Their Orange Chicken though.......you mean FUCKTACULAR on a plate!  No over breading like some other shitty places (*cough* Andy's Chinese Cuisine) but it's as if each hearty piece of chicken meat is pillowed around crispy batter and covered in a sweet/spicy/savory orange sauce -of which should not be bottled and sold on the shelves as to not cause riots at grocery stores.

Wild Pepper...I give you 5 stars and the highest of fives *HIGH FIVE*

I've had delivery from this restaurant (via eat24) a few times and have enjoyed the food. I like their meatless chicken options, particularly the meatless orange chicken. My only caution is that there has been a TON of garlic in all of the dishes I have ordered. I actually scrape some of it off because it's so overwhelming. Other than that, I really like their dishes.

I was feeling Chinese food, so decided to come here with my boyfriend. At the end of the day, we were both extremely full with a lot of left overs to bring home. We ordered 4 entrees and was only able to finish 1/3 of each because the portions were huge! We ordered General Tao chicken, dry braised chicken wings, salmon with asparagus, and garlic pea sprouts, all very delicious and highly recommend!
The restaurant itself has dim lights with red/orange walls to complement the Chinese art pieces; very good choice of interior design compared to other Chinese restaurants!
Servers were quick and polite. The owner, Ming, was very friendly and took the time to converse with his customers. He made sure we were satisfied with our meal and kept checking back on us!

Overall, very satisfied with our experience and definitely coming back here again!

I came in a few days before Christmas, and this place was quiet. It was twilight, and a Christmas tree was lit. There was only the rustle of the cooks in the back, and another table wrapping up their meal. Somehow this all seemed so familiar.

My god, this looks just like the Chinese restaurant from A Christmas Story.

I told my friend I wanted cheap Chinese food, and he told me of Wild Pepper. When I walked in, I knew this was exactly what I was looking for. The order:

    General Tsao's Chicken
    Calamari

The chicken was covered in dark glutenous sauce, flavorful but not spicy. Tame enough for those unfamiliar with the Chinese flavor palette while still maintaining some hint of authenticity.

The calamari were large pieces of squid with large amounts of batter fried. The crust was on the softer side, but not soggy. Hot inside, lots of pepper. Both are recommended.

Nice servers, neighborhood feel, no nonsense place to get a cheap fix.

  • *****

The boyfriend and I had our Xmas meal here, and we were blown away. Everything we ordered was top notch, and based on the appealing appearance of the potstickers the servers were busy dishing out, we couldn't help but add those to our order. As can be expected on Xmas day, the place was packed, but the servers provided excellent service and our food arrived faster than we expected. We ordered 5 dishes and our bill was $44!! A STEAL in a city of overpriced cuisine. The only negative aspect of our meal was the table of early-twenties American-born Chinese girls being loudly rude to the server who spoke English as a second language. Despite this, she gave us impeccable service. If I could give this restaurant more than five stars I would.

    Pot stickers
    General tsao's chicken

He ate all of the soup last night and said it was great. I skipped dinner due to typhoid or whatever this is.

We had leftovers tonight. We are talking about old Chinese food... And wow, it was pretty darn good. So I'll bet it was REALLY good yesterday.
Ok I lie. The potstickers were deep fried, so they were probably never very good. Everything else? Yay.

I found this place in 2010 when my usual place closed for remodeling.  In 17 years in SF I've ordered Chinese food delivery from MANY places.  Wild Pepper is by far the best.  The volcano prawns are freakin amazing.  CALL instead of 3rd-party internet order and you'll get your food faster (for those of you who blast this place for slow delivery)

Everything I ordered was great. So many choices, I will be ordering delivery from them again so I can try other things. The veggies I got we're fresh and delicious. The BBQ pork buns were as good as what I would expect from China Town. The delivery came in less than an hour.

Fantastic take-out! I had this twice while I was out this past trip. I had orange chicken, general tso's chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and sesame beef. These were all great! The sauce isn't overwhelmingly thick or in excess. The pork fried rice is great as well. This is high quality take-out.

Joined our vegan friends for dinner and had a fantastic time. Prompt, attentive service. Food prepared super fast and came out at a steady (not to fast) pace.

We (a group of 5) went there Christmas Eve, and had a great experience.  So much has been written about Wild Pepper already that I can't really add much else, except to say that we, too, were very, very satisfied.  Every dish was well-prepared, colorful, and flavorful.  Instead of bringing all the entrees at once, they kind of staggered them as they came out of the kitchen, which was perfect -- everything was hot and everyone got to taste some of each dish.  I liked the decor, too, which I suppose was a bit 'Americanized', but open, spacious, and inviting.  This was truly a welcome change from the Mainland-themed joints I sometimes visit, with their bright fluorescent lights, non-existent decor and questionable bathroom.  We'll be going back very soon, and so should you.

My coworkers & I have ordered delivery from here 3 times in the last 2 weeks and it's been smooth and easy each time.  The food has been tasty, the amount of food has been generous and the delivery time has been just as quoted each time. The last time i ordered was on Wed. with 3 entrees and 2 orders of rice.  After my partner and I had dinner that night and made 2 lunches for me and 1 for her for work, we still have 1 portion left.  All for $34 including tax & tip.  So yes, I'm ordering from there again.

Amazing vegan and vegetarian dishes. All authentic. Delivery drivers are always polite; I forgot to leave a tip one night with the driver and he didn't even mention it.

The menu is vast in authentic, modern, dishes. I love this place! A must eat when Im in SF!!

I ordered through Seamless.  They delivererd on time. The food was good & still warm.  Nice selection of vegan and meat dishes.  Good variety.  Prices are not bad.  Would order from here again.  Good faux-meat selection.

Sometimes having good intuition is bad.  I used to order delivery so often that I got way too good at figuring out what the best veggie items on a given menu were.  I would order one (or two if I hadn't reached the delivery minimum); it would arrive; I would eat it; it would be delicious; I would write a rave review.

    Simple, right?

Except that I would tell myself that I needed to try different things, so after ordering the same item or two four times, I would change it up.  And it wouldn't be as good.  The next time, I would change it up again with different change-ups, and they wouldn't be as good as those first times.  Convinced that I had simply put too much faith in the accuracy of my memory, I would reorder the original favorites, and guess what?  They would be excellent.

And that, my friends, is exactly what Wild Pepper is all about.  Don't waste your time trying different stuff.  Order General Tsao Meatless Chicken and Vegetarian Mu-Shu.  You can try all the other variations, but why?  I've already done all this work for you.

If you must experiment, avoid Vegetarian Delight (boring and bland) and Sweet & Sour Meatless Chicken (way too much like everything from King Dong in Berkeley).  Everything else is OK.  The delivery is quick, and their delivery area is ridiculously vast.

Every time we crave for China food delivery, we always order through Wild Pepper. The staff are very friendly , food taste great and delivery  is quick.

They also have good selection of Chinese dishes from different regions.

I've been here several times within the past few weeks now. It has become my favorite lunch spot based on location, price, and variety of the menu. I discovered they actually have two different types of meatless chicken. One for fried dishes, General Tso's, Orange, Sweet n Sour, etc. Another form of meatless chicken that looks like brown tofu but tastes different for the other dishes like Szechuan, Kung Pao, etc. Being a junk food vegan, I prefer the texture of the fried but the cubed chick is pretty good too. I tried to ask my Chinese buddy which dishes were fried vs non fried, but he's more redneck than I could ever hope to be. There's a good reason his nickname is "Tex"...

I still can't give it a full 5 stars since fake chicken is the only vegan option they have so far. Although even if there was a fake beef, I'd probably still opt for the chickenish dishes. They're also not the fastest place in town. Which isn't  a problem for the most part since we usually call ahead, although I still have to wait sometimes. Also the Monk's garden Soup was not what I was hoping for. Almost no flavor at all. Not disgusting or anything. Just needs some salt, MSG, or something. Would probably be good a starter instead of a full meal. I'm already looking forward to my next meal here later this week.

I love that this place serves dim sum throughout the day. It's about $8 for a dim sum plate of two pork buns, two shanghai pork buns, two siu mai, &two shrimp dumplings. I've try some of their main dishes and it tastes fresh, that it doesn't taste like it's been sitting out for days like I've experienced in some Chinese restaurants. This place is my go-to restaurant for Chinese food in the Mission.

The food there is pretty good but the service was not so good I ordered the shrimp dumplings and they where very doughy eww but over all 4 stars

    Good Chinese delivery.

    Likes:
    - War Won Ton (lots of meat, good salty broth)
    - Mongolian Beef
    - Fried Rice (tad greasy but good)

    Mu shu was so so.

Most solid Chinese delivery for Noe Valley area I've found so far.  Every time delivery turnaround has been quick.

Just finished a delivery order. Was really surprised at just how good it was. I had General Tsao Chicken, Fried Oysters, and Hot & Sour Soup. The soup was mediocre, but pretty standard-tasting. The oysters were fantastic. They were salty, still crunchy from the deep fryer, and hot. The chicken was a bit crunchy and well-glazed with sauce. I mean, don't get me wrong, it wasn't really incredible food, but it was exactly what I expected from a good delivery Chinese place. Nothing disappointed.

Wild Pepper is now my default Chinese delivery place!

This is a solid go-to for takeout. I have always been happy with my food and the prices are reasonable. Plus, they are linked to Eat24 so it's way easy to order online!

I recommend the General Tso Chicken and the Crab Rangoon.

I pass by the restaurant every time I'm heading towards the Salvation Army (looking for some treasures).  The restaurant looks nice, so I never went into it thinking it would be outside my budget.  Well, I finally had some extra $ and checked it out for dinner...

I had the Mongolian Beef, an Eggplant dish, brown rice and some tea. The tab totalled $17.  With tip, $20 .  I left with leftovers for a good lunch.

They have lunch specials which are really reasonable - $7 to $9 (which include soup and rice).

Good Chinese food (large portions) at a reasonable price   :)
    Lots of vegetarian options :)
    Nice environment :)
    Good service :)

Basic homestyle Szechuan cooking with flair.  Fresh ingredients, imaginatively used, nice interior, good service, extremely low prices.  This is a regular stop for us.

Recommended: Ginger Oysters, salt/pepper pork chops, General Tsao chicken.

Delicious. I love my Chinese food. Unfortunately, this doesn't top my fav Chinese place in the city but it was good. There wasn't anyone in there so we were served well. The bathroom is really clean and overall a really clean place. They give you a cute ceramic tea set so its not those plastic ones. Not bad to try out.

It's been a while since I first started eating here, but I'd had some ups and downs in the beginning that are now long forgotten. Originally, when I ordered delivery (vegetarian), I'd get meat or something wrong. Delivery took a while so to get the correct item, it took even longer. Recently, I've been getting everything perfectly. The reason for 5 stars (outside of the tremendous food)? When we finally dined in the restaurant, we had a great experience. The waitress was very nice and the service was great.

The food here is terrific (some of the best vegetarian/vegan Asian food in the city) and very reasonably priced. I highly recommend Wild Pepper, both for delivery and dining in. We order here all the time and we will as long as we're anywhere near SF.

Stuck at St. Luke's waiting for a baby to come and found this little gem a block and a half away. So good. General Tsaos sp. chicken was marvelous with the veggie fried rice. Don't personally like beef chow fun but my wife does and she loved it.  The pot stickers were fried but not oily at all. Had a great meal for two (no alcohol) for a little more that $30. So great, will be back again.  No parking to speak of, but you probably live in the City and are used to it.

Solid veggie/vegan Chinese (+ omni options) Loved the string beans with meatless chicken and veggie mu shu. Little bit oily, but overall delish.

This neighborhood Chinese place is worth the search for a parking space. The food was tasty with plenty of veggie choices for the vegetarians in our group. The staff was nice and attentive. We ordered so much food, I have no idea what to suggest here (we literally filled the long table we were at) but there were no disappointing dishes.
If you are in the mood for Chinese and are in the area, you should definitely eat here.

The food is tasty, actually has some spice, contains real vegetables, and is very affordable. I've only ever tried their fake chicken or straight vegetable dishes. It has all been good.

I've ordered takeout from Wild Pepper twice now. Both times on weekends, but on the earlier end on Fridays. The first time, the food came in 15 minutes (which was shocking after reading some reviews here.) This last time, they said it would be 45 minutes and they were basically on time. Maybe we've just been lucky, but I'll keep ordering from them.

The best General Tso's in the city! Don't be fooled by other restaurants claiming to be better, its bs.

Your probably thinking... "How good can a Chinese restaurant in the Mission be?" I thought the same thing until we randomly tried this place about two years ago. Now I'm a regular.

I have tried lots of places in Chinatown and none have deep fried dishes as good as this. While other restaurants in Chinatown may have similar dishes or better vegetable and noodle dishes Wild Peeper defiantly excels with General Tso's. A close second would have to be their Honey Walnut Prawns followed by Mongolian Beef or some very tasty meatless versions of most entrees.

EAT AT THE RESTAURANT. Delivery can be hit or miss often taking up to 90 min (even when they are only three blocks away) and the food tends to loose its crispness in the sealed plastic containers they use.

Service at the restaurant is very quick and food is usually out in a couple of minutes. Defiantly give this place a try a guarantee you be surprised.

This has to be my favorite Chinese restaurant I have found! I had the meatless orange chicken and it is so crispy and flavorful. Plus, their fried rice is really good too. I haven't had anything bad and I've been a few times and I'll be going back for more!

I adore this place. It's my neighborhood Chinese restaurant, and I go often. The menu is uniformly delicious. My favorite dishes are the Jalapeno Fried Rice and the General Tso Chicken. Prices are really fair for the area and the entree sizes are suitable.

My only criticism is that sometimes the entrees can be a bit too much fried batter for my taste- but I'll admit that I like my Chinese and Japanese food simple.

I'd recommend this place to nearly everyone.
